Amidst plenty of controversies, Bangladesh Premier League commenced a couple of days ago and we have already seen six teams fight it out in the first three matches of the tournament. Two of the three matches have been rather anti-climatic with the winning team not having to do much. Dhaka Platoons and Comilla Warriors are placed at almost opposite ends of the ladder and are set to meet each other in the upcoming fixture. The match between the two sides is to be played at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka on 13th December. These are early days in the tournament, but both the teams would love to gain the early lead and we expect a cracking contest between the two sides on Thursday.
Dhaka Platoons got off to a start exactly opposite the kind of start they wanted. They suffered a heavy loss and are consequently placed at the fifth spot on the ladder with a net run-rate of -0.718.
They played their first match against Rangpur Riders wherein the Riders defeated them by a massive margin of nine wickets. Batting first on a good surface, the Platoons could score a total of only 134. The likes of Tamim Iqbal, Laurie Evans, and Thisara Perera all failed to fire for them as they struggled for runs in the middle overs after a poor start. Wahab Riaz and Mashrafe Mortaza contributed with cameos towards the end of their innings to lift them to a competitive total, which didn't prove to be enough eventually.
The total of 134 needed some exceptional display of bowling by Platoon bowlers, but they failed to deliver on all accounts. Barring Mashrafe Mortaza and Mahedi Hasan, who returned with the impressive spells of 3-0-18-0 and 4-0-23-1, none of their bowlers looked like saving runs let alone picking up wickets. With sensible batting, the Rajshahi Riders cruised to the total with nine wickets in hand and more than an over to spare.
Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Laurie Evans, Jaker Ali Anik, Thisara Perera, SMSK Afridi, Shuvagata Hom, Mahedi Hasan, Wahab Riaz, Mashrafe Mortaza, Hasan Mahmud.
Comilla Warriors have started off in a blazing fashion as they handed Rangpur Riders with a massive 105-run defeat. The colossal win has taken their net run-rate to 5.25, which is by far the best in the tournament. They are at the top of the ladder and will be looking to stay their with a win in their upcoming encounter.
The Warriors have a terrific batting lineup with almost each of their batsmen capable to hit the ball hard and handsome from the word go. This quality of their batting lineup proved to be match-saving for them. After all of their top-five batsmen failed to contribute much to the total score as they were reduced to 85 for 5 in 12.1 overs. Just when they looked down and out, Dasun Shanka, their skipper, came in and hammered a brilliant fifty to take Warriors to 173. Shanka remained unbeaten with a score of 75 coming in just 31 deliveries.
While Shanaka's batting was impressive, the way Warriors' bowlers performed was extra-ordinary. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was brilliant upfront and kept an end tied in the beginning while the other bowlers kept chipping away with the wickets. Al-Amin Hossain was the pick of the bowlers for the Warriors as he returned with the exceptional figures of 14 for 3 in his four overs. None of their bowlers looked out of touch as they restricted Rangpur Riders to just 68.
Yasir Ali Choudhary, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Soumya Sarkar, Dawid Malan, Sabbir Rahman, Dasun Shanaka, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan Ankon, Abu Hider, Sunzamul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Check out the Dream11 fantasy team prediction for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League match between Dhaka Platoons and Comilla Warriors
The two teams are coming off contrasting results in their respective matches and while one tram will be looking to keep their winning run going, the other one will have a big task at their hands. Although Dhaka's batting failed to fire in the first match, they have experienced batsmen available at their disposal who all can turn the match around in a matter of minutes. Comilla Warriors, on the other hand, were spectacular in their match, but their batsmen getting starts and getting dismissed would be a big cause of concern for their management. Dhaka Platoons are a more experienced unit and are a better balanced side between the two, at least on paper. We think that they will put their loss behind them and register an all important win on Thursday.
