We are finally at the business-end of the Abu Dhabi T10 League and even though the tournament was pretty short, it had lots of exciting moments. After all those crunch moments, we now have our four final teams who will take on each other for one final goal.
Delhi Bulls and Northern Warriors will meet to play the first qualifier, the winner of which will progress to the final. Going by the way the two teams have performed in the tournament thus far, it is going to be a cracking contest. The match is to be played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, on 5th February 2021.
Delhi Bulls have been one of the most consistent sides of the tournament and they have pretty much flown under the radar. They ultimately finished at the top of the table, thanks to the superb net run-rate that they have. Their net run-rate, which is 3.388 also demonstrates how dominant they have been in the competition.
In their most recent match, the Bulls defeated Qalandars pretty easily as the Bulls' batsmen cruised to the total with a little under three overs to spare. While their batsmen played their part, it was actually the effort from the bowlers that won the Bulls this game. Fidel Edwards picked up two important wickets and Dwayne Bravo was as effective as he's known to be.
On paper, they have a terrific team with a wide array of capable batsmen as well as bowlers available. They failed to win against the Warriors last time but Warriors are unlikely to have it that easy this time as well.
Evin Lewis, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, TB Abell, RS Bopara, Mohammad Nabi, Sherfane Rutherford, Dwayne Bravo, Shiraz Ahmed, Nyeem Young, Waqas Maqsood, FH Edwards.
Northern Warriors' journey in the tournament began with a heart-wrenching defeat, but they pulled themselves back up and performed brilliantly to finish at the second spot on the points table. They are coming into this qualifier with a winning streak of five matches and that that is something that cannot be discounted.
In the previous match, the Warriors' batsmen went berserk chasing a relatively easy total of 97. Waseem Muhammad was severe on the Devils' bowlers as he smashed 56 runs off just 13 deliveries. With the ball as well, there were hardly any loose areas that the Warriors exhibited.
On paper, the Warriors have a side that seems to be covering all bases pretty well. All of their batsmen are pretty capable of tonking the ball long and hard. Considering that this is going to be a high-pressure game, we expect Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell to play a big hand. If Waseem contributes in the way he's doing, it will be a massive bonus.
Perhaps the underrated strength of the Warriors has been their bowlers. Wahab Riaz, Junaid Siddiqui, Rayad Emrit, and Wayne Parnell form a bowling attack that is not just well-experienced but is also pretty well rounded. They all together have different kinds of tricks up their sleeves and lining them up is not easy for the batsmen. If they can deliver in this upcoming match, things will not be easy for the Bulls.
Nicholas Pooran, LMP Simmons, RR Emrit, F Allen, Wahab Riaz, Brandon King, Wayne Parnell, Dhananjaya Lakshan, Rovman Powell, Waseem Muhammad, Junaid Siddique.
Considering that the winner progresses straight to the finale, the stakes involved in this match cannot be overstated. The pressure will be high and experience will likely come into the picture. While the Bulls have a better batting unit, the Warriors have a bowling unit that can keep even the best batsmen quiet. Also, the Warriors emerged victorious when the two teams met the last time in the tournament. For that reason, we are banking on the Warriors to cruise to a win in this match as well.
