Delhi lost its previous match to the Mumbai Indians pretty convincingly and has now lost three out of its four matches at home. It now goes up against Kings XI Punjab in an effort to try and improve its record at home. Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab are right next to each other on the league table. Both the sides have won five out of their nine matches and are on ten points.
Delhi has a slightly better net run-rate but that is the only difference between the two sides right now.
With just five matches remaining, it is important for both the teams to win this match as it could prove to be crucial in the final tally. Kings XI won its previous match against the Rajasthan Royals and is in pretty good form.
The match between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab is going to be played at the Ferozshah Kota, New Delhi.
The Ferozshah Kotla refuses to provide pitches that suit the home team better and the Delhi team management refuses to pick a side that is better suited to the conditions. As a result, Delhi has now lost three out of its four matches at home. The one match that they did win was via the super over.
What can Delhi do different now going up against the Kings XI side?
We are sure that there are going to be some changes in the playing eleven. We don’t think they will make the mistake of playing Keemo Paul at home again. A player like Sandeep Lamichhane could be much more effective and help the team’s cause.
The batsmen must also be a little more conservative while playing in Delhi. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw got off to a nice start in the previous match but threw away their wickets. None of the batsmen that followed was able to get any runs and that meant that Delhi never even came close to chasing down the target.
Colin Munro may also not be the best fit in these conditions. It will be interesting to see if Delhi Capitals keep him int he playing eleven or replace him with Colin Ingram who has rejoined the side.
The form of Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, and Axar Patel would be encouraging. Ishant Sharma has been doing pretty well with the new ball as well.
Delhi has played four matches at its home ground and that experience must surely count for something. The captain and the team management must pick the right set of players to give Delhi the best chance of winning this match.
Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, RR Pant, Colin Ingram, Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, I Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane.
There are some obvious problems in the Kings XI Punjab side but they are making the most of their resources. Ravi Ashwin has been excellent as a captain and is able to get the best out of his players. There are a few things that must happen in this match if Punjab has to win.
The runs must come from the top-order, specifically, Lokesh Rahul and Chris Gayle. Both the players like the ball coming on to the bat. We have also seen that the best time to bat is against the new ball. If either of these two players is able to play a big inning then they could swing the match decisively towards Punjab.
The middle order of David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, and Mandeep Singh is a little unstable. We think Moises Henriques might play if he has recovered from his injury otherwise the same side may take the field.
Sam Curran may continue to miss out since Mujeeb ur Rahman could be much more effective on the Ferozshah Kotla surface. The biggest advantage that Punjab has is its spinners. Ravi Ashwin, Murugan Ashwin, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are three excellent spinners. They are going to be very difficult to face on the Ferozshah Kotla surface.
If the Punjab batting is able to get enough runs then Punjab has a very good chance of ending up the winners.
The one weakness that Kings XI has is in the power-hitting department. That may not be such a big issue in this match because neither side has been able to play the big shots in Delhi with ease.
Lokesh Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, David Miller, M Singh, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harpreet Brar, Hardus Viljoen, Murugan Ashwin, Mohammed Shami.
The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat first. The pitch gets slower and more difficult as the match progresses so batting first is a big advantage.

DC vs KXIP IPL 2019 is going to be played at the Ferozshah Kotla, New Delhi. The weather forecast for the match is quite good. It is not too hot and the rain should stay away as well. The match is going to be played at night but dew has not been an issue at this venue in previous matches either.
The pitch at the Ferozshah Kotla has been very disappointing so far. It is slow, takes a lot of turn, and makes batting very difficult. We don’t think that the surface is going to undergo a dramatic improvement for this match. A score of around 160 is going to be very hard to chase down in our opinion.
The Dream11 team for the Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab must be made taking into account the particularly difficult run-scoring conditions at the Ferozshah Kotla.
Wicketkeeper: There are plenty of options here including Lokesh Rahul, Rishab Pant, and Nicholas Pooran. We have gone with the obvious choice, Lokesh Rahul here. He is going to open the batting, the best time to bat, and is in good form. Rishab Pant has struggled in the spin-friendly conditions and his form has mirrored that of his side's at home, which is poor to say the least.
Batsmen: We have picked four batsmen for this match. Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, CHris Gayle, and Sarfaraz Khan. Three out of the four batsmen chosen are opening batsmen while Sarafarz Khan is one of the best players of spin on both sides.
All-rounders: We have chosen three all-rounders in the side. Chris Morris, Axar Patel, and Ravi Ashwin. The recent bowling form of Axar Patel and Ravi Ashwin has been very impressive. They are easy selections in Delhi while Chris Morris bowls in the end overs and could pick up some wickets as well.
Bowlers: Kagiso Rabada has taken more wickets than any other bowler in this tournament. One of the reasons why that has happened is because he bowls the bulk of overs during the end of the inning. Mohammad Shami and Murugan Ashwin are the other bowlers we have picked. Shami is also a death overs specialist while Murugan Ashwin has been bowling very well in recent matches.
Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Kagiso Rabada as captain and Ravi Ashwin as vice-captain in this match. Picking two bowlers is a bit of a risk but we think it may pay off in Delhi where the batsmen are not as dominant as in other venues.
The last time these two sides met, Delhi lost a match from a winning position. Both the teams have since done well in the tournament and know the importance of this game. We like Kings XI Punjab’s chances in this match. Their spin bowling attack is very good and their batting as good as Delhi’s on this pitch. Ashwin’s captaincy could also prove to be a big factor.
Back the Kings XI Punjab to win.
