Not often do we see a team losing from the position Delhi Capitals were in, in their last game. The loss would have certainly drained off a lot of morale out of them. Their next assignment is against a side who are third on the points table and have the best net run rate in the tournament so far, Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Sunrisers demolished Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last encounter and will be coming in with a lot of self-belief and confidence. Sunrisers Hyderabad have already landed in the capital city of India, Delhi to play this important match on 4th April. While both the sides are well-matched on paper, the performance on the field is going to govern the result. We expect a cracking contest on Thursday.
Coming off from some poor seasons of Indian Premier League, the Capitals got off the best possible start this year. The change of name happened to have an impact on their fortunes as they thumped Mumbai Indians in the opening game of the tournament.
However, all the dreams of putting the dark days behind them were shattered and the Capitals reminded their fans of the old days when they scripted an epic collapse a couple of days ago against Kings XI Punjab.
For most of the time, the Capitals were well and truly ahead in the business in their last encounter. Bowling first, they restricted Kings XI Punjab to a chasable total and at one stage their win was looking nothing but certain. However, one dismissal led to another as they collapsed from 144 for 3 to 152 all-out.
All in all, as seen in the other games as well, Delhi aren't really short on skill. With players like Prithvi Shaw, Colin Ingram, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer, the Capitals arguably have the best young batting lineup in the tournament which is complemented by an excellent bowling unit. However, their captain, Shreyas Iyer, lacks the experience of leading in such a high-profile tournament. Which have led to a few bad decisions. With not a lot going their way, the Capitals have a lot to work upon and if they handle the pressure situations well in their upcoming fixtures, it isn't going to be easy to face them.
Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, RR Pant, Colin Ingram, Chris Morris, Axar Patel, R Tewatia, Kagiso Rabada, I Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane.
Exactly contrary to Delhi Capitals' campaign, the last year's runners-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad started off the tournament on a poor note, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders in a closely fought game. However, they have backed that loss up with a couple of really strong performances resulting in two wins from their next two matches.
Their regular skipper, Kane Williamson, has been in and out of the team owing to injuries, but that hasn't really bothered Sunrisers Hyderabad in any aspect whatsoever. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been brilliant as a stand-in captain, even though his bowling has suffered.
Also, the absence of Williamson hasn't really affected the team's balance with David Warner, Vijay Shankar, and Jonny Bairstow in such fine form. With the like of Mohammad Nabi, Yusuf Pathan, Manish Pandey, and Deepak Hooda available in the batting order apart from the top-three, they have a seriously good batting line-up that bats deep.
It still remains to be seen whether Kane Williamson will be a part of playing eleven and if he is fit, Sunrisers will although lose Mohammad Nabi but will get stronger batting-wise and tactically. Overall, the Sunrisers currently are right up there with the best teams in this year's IPL considering the form they're in and their on-paper team. If they are able to continue to perform like they have been doing in their last two matches, it is going to take a colossal effort to get past them.
David Warner, Manish Pandey, V Shankar, Deepak Hooda, YK Pathan, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Jonny Bairstow, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, S Sharma, Siddarth Kaul.
Often in Dream11, picking the right captain is often a job half done. David Warner has done exceedingly well ever since his arrival in India this year - with three consecutive fifty-plus scores, including a century and he is the captain of our Dream11 team.
Both Rishabh Pant and Jonny Bairstow are explosive, high-impact players and often dictate the pace of the game. Jonny Bairstow bats higher up the order as compared to Rishabh Pant, and is also coming on the back of a century in the last match. Also, being one credit-point cheaper than Pant, picking him opens up a lot of other options in other departments. He is our pick for the wicket-keeper slot.
Even though, Vijay Shankar hasn't really accumulated many points with the ball, he has covered the job with the bat. Coming in at number three, he is a sure-shot pick for the all-rounder's slot. Additionally, if Sunrisers Hyderabad decides to go with an unchanged lineup, Mohammad Nabi will be our second choice for the all-rounders' slot. Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, and Sandeep Lamichhane are our picks for the bowling positions. Check out our complete Dream11 team below.
Sunrisers Hyderabad were arguably the best bowling side last year. Interestingly, they are the best batting side of the tournament, going by the statistics, this year up until now. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow have stitched three century-plus stands which is nothing short of exemplary. Vijay Shankar has done tremendously well in taking the innings forward without any loss in momentum.
Delhi Daredevils have a strong batting lineup, but the experience is certainly an issue. Having said that, they have a bowling unit which even the best teams in the world would be envious of. This match is going to be a battle between Delhi's bowling and Sunrisers' batting and whoever holds its nerve is likely to go home with two important points. Sunrisers Hyderabad have done better in the tournament thus far, are a better side on paper, and have plenty of experience behind them.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are our pick to win this upcoming fixture on Thursday at Delhi.
