About the Match
Not many would have imagined Delhi in a position they're in after their win in the second game of the season. Delhi Daredevils registered two consecutive wins in its second and third game of the season but has failed to taste success ever since. They'll be looking to put an end to all the humiliation against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their upcoming fixture which is to be played on 2nd May 2017 at their home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, is cruising and will be looking to move closer to cement their position in the top two.
Although Delhi Daredevils are languishing near the bottom of the table, all is not lost for them. Five out of their remaining six matches are to be played on their home ground and they'll be banking on this encounter as a beginning of something good. With the likes of Rabada, Morris, and Cummins in their bowling lineup, a juicy Kotla wicket can certainly help their cause.
Daredevils received a thrashing from Kings XI Punjab in their last match, getting bowled out for 67 which happened to be the second lowest score of the season with 49 from Roya Challengers Bangalore being the lowest. From the past couple of games, the batting department which is depended heavily on young Indian shoulders of Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair, has failed to shoulder the responsibility.
Despite their batting doing miserably, their bowling has delivered some standout performances. Barring their match against KKR, in which they were chased down with four overs to spare, their bowlers have looked lethal. Chris Morris, Mohammad Shami, Kagiso Rabada and Patrick Cummins have regularly clocked 140-mark on speed-gun.
Al in all the men in Blue and Red aren't out of contention just as yet, but they'd have to do what RCB did last year beginning with this game. Can they do it? Of course, they can. However, it would require a collective effort from their bowlers and batsmen, and if they're able to do it for 6 consecutive games, we'll surely have some delightful Cricket to watch.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, unlike Delhi Daredevils, is on a roll. They rocked Kolkata Knight Riders in their last match with David Warner getting a century without taking too many balls. Shikhar Dhawan played a useful run-a-ball knock of 20-odd runs to keep the scoreboard ticking and to return the strike to David Warner who was striking the balls ruthlessly. Kane Williamson and Moises Henriques have gotten two and three fifties respectively and have looked solid in the middle. Yuvraj has shown flashes of his talent and ability but hasn't really converted his starts into the big ones.
Their bowling has been the match winner for them so far in the tournament. Bhuvneshwar Kumar leads the pack as well as the IPL bowling charts and holds the purple cap. Rashid Khan, too, has been terrific as batsmen have failed to pick his googly more often than not. Siraj Khan and Sidharth Kaul have provided the supporting role brilliantly to the main bowlers and team has managed to stem the run-flow in the middle overs as well.
Sunrisers will ideally want David Warner to fire like he did on the other night, but things aren't as easy in Cricket. It will be a different surface, a different set of bowlers and a different day. Sunrisers late middle order hasn't been tested yet and things can escalate quickly should they lose their openers cheaply. With Warner finding some form in the last game, it will be an interesting encounter between Delhi's strong bowling and his swashbuckling batting.
It will be a change of venue for Delhi Daredevils, but can it change their fortunes as well. They've lost some close games and a few one-sided encounters. While they'd want to pull up their socks and get of the a winning start in their home ground, Sunrisers Hyderabad certainly look an overall better side and favorite to win this encounter
