Dhaka Dynamites, who reached the final in 2017 edition of Bangladesh Premier League, enjoyed a rousing start to the new season as they defeated Rajshahi Kings in the second game of the opening day of the tournament. They'll be looking to continue with the momentum when they take on Rajshahi Kings in their next match on 8th January at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka. Khulna Titans suffered a loss in their first match of the season, losing to Rangpur Riders in a closely contested match. They've been pretty consistent throughout the history of Bangladesh Premier League and will be keen to bounce back to the winning ways.
The Titans got off to a sorry start as they lost to the defending champions while chasing a competitive total. The thing which would probably worry them more than the loss is their failure to close the game and it will be interesting to see how they deal with their jittery looking middle order.
They started off wonderfully and were well on their way to chase the total of 170, but lost crucial wickets at critical moments of the game. Paul Stirling and Junaid Siddiqui got them off to a flyer as they stitched together a fluent partnership of 90 runs for the first wicket. The loss of Siddiqui triggered a mini collapse for them from which they could never recover. Despite Paul Stirling's valiant 61, they fell short of Rangpur Riders' total by 8 runs.
Earlier with the ball, they had a mixed day. The story of two halves haunted them earlier in the day as well as they conceded more than a hundred runs in the final ten overs. To the contrary, their bowlers were brilliant in the powerplay leading up to midway through their innings. Their bowlers lost the plot in the second half of their innings when Rilee Rossouw and Ravi Bopara began their onslaught. That was perhaps the turning point of the game and for Titans to do well in the upcoming matches, it is imperative for them to improve their death bowling.

Every team has played at least a game in the BPL so far and barring Dhaka Dynamites, every team displayed at least some kind of vulnerability. The Dynamites, however, were ruthless right from the word go as they demolished Rajshahi Kings by a massive margin of 83 runs in their opening encounter.
Afghanistan's batting sensation, Hazratullah Zazai, was at his absolute best as he hammered 41-ball 78 to lead his team to a match-defining total. Opening with Sunil Narine, who too played an enterprising knock of 38, Zazai was pretty severe on all Kings' bowlers. The departure of Sunil Narine brought wickets in a bunch for the Kings, but the relief they were looking for was nowhere in sight as in came Shuvgata Hom. Hom smashed 38 runs off just 18 deliveries taking Dynamites' total to 183.
Considering the powerful batting lineup at Kings' disposal, the job was only half done and their bowlers needed to join the party as well. Andre Russel and Mohor Sheikh started their defense to perfection as Kings lost their three key wickets even before reaching fifty. Rubel Hossain was the pick of their bowlers as he picked three wickets for just seven runs including the wicket of dangerous looking Mohammad Hafeez.

The Dynamites and the Titans had a contrasting fate in their last match. Dhaka Dynamites were brilliant in both the halves of the match whereas the Titans were brilliant only in the first halves of their two innings. After being in a position to dictate terms, Riders' failure to close out the game elaborated their inexperienced middle order which is a little over-reliant on Mahmudullah. The Dynamites, on the other hand, exhibited a complete performance and are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter as well.
