After getting off to a disappointing start in the tournament, Rangpur Riders finally found it back to winning ways. They now have to wins in three matches and are neck and neck on the points table with Dhaka Dynamites who are right at the top of the ladder. The Dynamites and Riders will take on each other at Dhaka on 11th January. Dhaka Dynamites have arguably been the best side in the tournament thus far with two clinical wins and their net run rate of 4.7 just demonstrates how dominant they've been. Rangpur Riders exhibited the same kind of dominance in their last match and with both teams flying high in confidence, this top of the table contest in the one to watch out for.
Two matches, two huge totals, and two massive wins - Such has been the story for Dhaka Dynamites in the tournament so far. Their main lead of the story so far has been the little-known Afghanistan player Hazratullah Zazai. Zazai scored a stupendous fifty against Khulna Titans, his second in as many games, as Dynamites got off to a dynamic start.
The Dynamites have played just a couple of games in the tournament so far and we've already seen almost each of their player come to the party. Although Narine hasn't been as effective with the bat as he usually is in the IPL, the management and the fans will be happy with his contribution. The likes of Rony Talukdar, Shakib Al Hasan, and Shuvagata Hom have chipped all chipped in with the bat.
Batting aside, their bowling has been a major proponent in the two wins they've had thus far. Twice in two matches, they dismissed teams for a rather subpar score on decent batting wickets. Shakib Al Hasan, Sunil Narine, and Rubel Hossain have all played a major role in both of their wins. Overall, the Dynamites are the only team in the tournament which has looked complete in all aspects. Considering the way they've played thus far, they'll be the team to defeat not only for Rangpur Riders but also in all the upcoming matches.
Hazratullah Zazai, SP Narine, R Talukdar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mizanur Rahman, Nurul Hasan, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Shuvagata Hom, Rubel Hossain, Aliss Islam.
Beginning their campaign with an embarrassing loss to Chittagong Vikings, the Riders have strongly put their case forward with a back to back wins. The interesting thing about those couple of wins is that they did it without really needing Chris Gayle to fire.
Their batting failed collectively against the Vikings, but the way their batsmen performed in the games to follow was commendable. Rilee Rossouw has been exceptional in the two games and played a match-winning innings of 76 not-out against Khulna Titans and his partnership with Ravi Bopara happened to be the turning point of the match.
With the likes of Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, AB de Villiers, Rilee Rossouw, and Ravi Bopara in their side, the Riders are known more for their batting arsenal. However, it was their bowling that demolished Comilla Victorians in the last match. It was skipper's turn to shine as he produced a match-winning performance of 4-0-11-4 to dismiss Victorians for a paltry total of 63. Nazmul Islam and Shafiul Islam chipped in with three and two wickets respectively. Never in the history of T20 cricket have we seen a team losing while chasing such a low total and it didn't turn out to be any different as the Riders cruised to the total with 9 wickets and 8 overs to spare.
Chris Gayle, Mehedi Maruf, Rilee Rossouw, Mohammad Mithun, RS Bopara, Benny Howell, Farhad Reza, Mashrafe Mortaza, S Gazi, Nazmul Islam, Shafiul Islam.
It's always tough to choose between the two top of the table sides. After a poor start, Rangpur Riders have improved drastically and are certainly playing like defending champions. Dhaka Dynamites, on the other hand, have done nothing wrong so far and the outstanding results they've shown validate that. Rangpur Riders are a batting powerhouse which can destroy any batting lineup on their day. However, we haven't seen the best of Chris Gayle in recent times and barring Rossouw, no one has played a big innings at the top for the Riders. On the contrary, the Dynamites have looked like a complete side with both batting and bowling contributing in both of their wins. Although the match is expected to be a see-saw battle and can swing in any direction, we think that the Dynamites will just edge past the Riders in this top of the table clash.
