About the Match
It would be a game to win for Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings when they meet on 17th April 2013 at Delhi. Neither of the team has managed to get going as both lie at the bottom of the table. Chennai’s condition, however, is somewhat better than that of Daredevils. Also, Chennai has played a game less than Delhi. A win for Delhi would take them at par with their opponents and a start to this year’s IPL. It’s expected to be a good game with Warner and Sehwag showing some good signs and Chennai’s see-saw performance.
Chennai Super Kings:
It has been a rather interesting campaign for Chennai Super Kings. They’ve won games from unpromising positions and lost from where they should have won. Chennai has won two out of their four games with one of them being a last ball win. Chennai is arguably one of the most balanced sides of the IPL, but they’ve always been slow starters. With captain as cool as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, their team has excellent bowling attack and batting unit with energetic fielding. They have troubles with opening pair and that needs to be solved. Overall, Chennai is a difficult team to get past, one of the toughest, in fact.
Delhi, unexpectedly, has performed miserably in this season. The chief architect of their poor state is their batting which has not been able to get runs at quick pace. They stand at the bottom of the table without any victory to their name. They just snatched a win in their last game against RCB, but lost it in super over. On paper, Delhi is a good side, but they have not been able to get their combinations right. With one of the lethal opening pair, they can win any game on their day and a target of even 200 runs may appear to be small.
Going by the performance so far, selecting between the sides would be easy. Chennai Super Kings has played better than Delhi, at least in this IPL, and has a better side on paper. However, Cricket is a funny game and T20 is a funnier format; any sort of turnaround can take place in a matter of few balls. Delhi has an excellent bowling attack, but they are struggling in batting. Chennai is a better side in a relatively better form and I’d place my money on them.
