About the Match
The Daredevils have worked hard to get where they are; with 6 points from 4 matches, they are placed 3rd and will take on second-place holders Gujarat Lions, who made a comeback into their winning form and have 8 points from 5 matches, on 27th April at Delhi. While Daredevils defeated Mumbai Indians in the previous game by 10 runs, the Lions overcame the challenge from RCB and won the match by 6 wickets. Both teams are eager to continue on their winning momentum and will leave no stone unturned to do so.
Sanju Samson’s well-made 60 off 48 and JP Duminy’s unbeaten 49 helped them post a 165-run target against Mumbai Indians, which was defended successfully thanks to a superb effort by Amit Mishra, who took 2-24, Chris Morris and Zaheer Khan, who took a wicket each. Mohammad Shami and Imran Tahir helped contain the run-flow and provide great depth to the bowling attack.
In the match against RCB, Quinton de Kock’s valiant 108 off just 51 deliveries helped them get to the massive target of 192 with 5 balls to spare; Karun Nair supported well at the other end with a well-made half century. Earlier, the bowling department failed to restrict the opposition and despite Shami taking 2-34 and Brathwaite and Zaheer providing couple more breakthroughs, they faced a challenging total.
The Daredevils lost their opening game against KKR but have upped their ante ever since registering their first victory against Kings XI; they are driven to put their best foot forward and we will surely see them come out all guns blazing on Wednesday.
Their shocking defeat against Sunrisers didn’t stop them from putting up a good show in the next game against RCB and they won it emphatically by 6 wickets after chasing down 181 runs. Dwayne Smith opened with Brendon McCullum and they posted a 47-run partnership to start the chase positively; Dinesh Karthik’s splendid 50 off 39, a well-made 28 by Raina and a good stint by Jadeja steered the team to victory in the end. The bowlers had earlier struggled to put up a disciplined attack and gave away too many runs but the batsmen took charge to find their winning form back.
Against Sunrisers, Finch had failed to fire getting out for a duck; Raina was the lone fighter and his 75 off 51 went in vain as the bowlers went wicket-less during the 2nd innings trying to defend a lowly 135. Praveen Kumar, Steyn, Bravo and Kulkarni proved to be costly while Tambe and Jadeja failed to impress with their spin tactics.
They started their debut season with 3 consecutive wins and have surely proved to be the team to look out for; with a strong batting line-up and a variety of bowlers in the squad, Gujarat Lions have what it takes to become champions.
Gujarat Lions are a formidable force to reckon with but hosts Daredevils will surely keep some tricks up their sleeves to outwit them; it could well be a contest between the bowlers and although the match could swing either way, we feel that Daredevils with the home advantage is better placed to win on Wednesday
