About the Match
The Daredevils are not in a very good position as they have just collected 4 points from 7 matches so far; they now face Kolkata, which too has only 4 points from same number of matches, at Delhi on 7th May. Kolkata lost the match against Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin after being in a comfortable position with a superb opening partnership but lost control down the line and were reduced to 6 wickets for 126, thereby falling short by 10 runs at the end. Delhi on the other hand, fought hard against Chennai but suffered defeat in the end by 8 wickets. Both teams need to discipline their innings when they bat and a better determination to remain in reckoning among the other teams.
Batting first against Chennai Super Kings at their home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla at Delhi, in the last match, the Daredevils piled up an imposing target of 179 thanks to a superb innings by Dinesh Karthik and a last over rain of sixes by Jadhav, in the company of Duminy. Quinton de Kock and Murali Vijay laid a good foundation for the opening partnership and that allowed Karthik to use long hand methods to score 50+ in quick time. But they were against a superior team in CSK, wherein McCullum and Smith in good form, laid a comfortable opening partnership over 80 and then Raina and Smith with some fierce hitting, demolished the bowling efforts of Delhi and lost the match. The bowlers struggled to take wickets and leaked too many runs; in the previous match against Rajasthan, they had failed to defend 152 runs. The players need to pull up their socks and be more consistent with performances in all departments of the game to take their campaign ahead.
Kolkata Knight Riders
After they lost the previous two matches continuously, narrowly against Rajasthan Royals and with a huge margin against CSK, Knight Riders were expected to put in a good fight against Rajasthan Royals in at Ahmedabad. They did a good job chasing a target of 171 set by the Royals, Gautham and Uthappa seemed to take the side for a comfortable victory with 121 for no loss; but suddenly a dramatic over by Shane Watson, taking 3 wickets in one over, and the whole scenario changed for the Knight Riders who staggered at 123 for 3 and with Tambe’s hat-trick were reduced to a shocking 126 for 6 in a matter of just 2 overs. Shakib tried his best and in the company of Suryakumar Yadav, took the side up to 154 by the 19th over but clever bowling by Watson ensured that the batsmen didn’t go for the big hits. A very determined effort by KKR to begin with that ended miserably with a loss, mainly due to undue haste of the batsmen. They need to reinvent themselves and come out all guns blazing to move ahead from here on.
While the teams have had similar fortunes and this match too would be an equal contest; the Daredevils who are picking up their form in recent matches, are favorites to take this match.
