About the Match
Daredevils have done well in recent matches to climb up to the 4th position with 4 points and will face Mumbai Indians, who have 2 points so far in the upcoming match on 23rd April at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. The hosts will be keen to add more wins to their name whereas Mumbai Indians, who finally registered their first win the tournament by defeating RCB, are eager to continue with their momentum. It will be very interesting to see which team can dominate the other and triumph on Thursday.
It was a dreadful innings against KKR as they lost too many wickets batting first; in the end the runs on board weren’t enough and Daredevils lost the match by 6 wickets. Although Shreyas Iyer scored 31 and counter-attacked the opposition to stitch a 36-run partnership with Manoj Tiwari who posted 32, the others fell short in getting the big runs and they could only manage 146 runs. In the previous match against Sunrisers, Shreyas Iyer scored 60 while JP Duminy came good with the bat to post 54 and help their side post a good total of 167. Skipper Duminy scalped 4 wickets to demolish the opponent’s batting line-up and he was well supported by Imran Tahir, Nathan-Coulter-Nile. And Mathews to take the team home to victory by 4 runs. Overall, the team has many talented players to bounce back against Mumbai Indians in the next match with players like Shreyas and Mayank Agarwal who have been impressive at the top order. The middle order with JP Duminy, Yuvaraj Singh and Angelo Mathews looks solid and they can roll their arm over too to get quick wickets. The spin twins Imran Tahir and Amit Mishra have been excellent with the ball and will be complemented by Coulter-Nile and others to steer the team towards victory again.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Mumbai Indians finally got into their groove after beating RCB by 18 runs; bating first, they smashed 209 as target with Lendl Simmons scoring 59 off 44, skipper Rohit Sharma posting an outstanding 42 from 15 and Unmukt Chand blasting 58 off 37. 209 eventually proved to be enough to give the Mumbai Indians their first win as Harbhajan Singh bowled a superb spell ending up with three scalps. They had lost their previous match against CSK after setting up a good score of 184. Kieron Pollard blasted 64 off 30 and Rohit Sharma smashed 50 off 31 but their bowlers did not perform well according to their plan. Overall, Mumbai Indians are the one of the strongest sides on paper with players like Lendl Simmons, Rohit Sharma and Corey Anderson, who are capable of setting a high target as well as chasing down targets. On the bowling front, Harbhajan Singh is in-form taking wickets consistently along with Vinay Kumar, Lasith Malinga and Jagadeesha Suchith, who are supporting him well. With a focused approach and winning strategy, this team can cause upsets to any opposition and climb their way to the top four.
Both teams are capable of winning the contest as they have quality players who can turn the game at any stage. After a solid performance against RCB, Mumbai Indians must have gained a lot of confidence, but we think Delhi Daredevils are more likely to succeed in the upcoming match on Thursday.
