About the Match
RCB registered a thumping win against Sunrisers Hyderabad to climb up to the 2nd position with 15 points; they will go up against Delhi Daredevils, who have only 10 points and placed 7th, on 17th May at Bengaluru. The Challengers did exceedingly well to keep their hopes alive and put other teams under pressure while the Daredevils too stunned top-placed CSK in their previous match; they would want to continue with their winning momentum and bow out of the tournament with their heads held high.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers defeated SRH by six wickets (D/L method) in a rain-affected match, chasing the required 81 inside 6 overs; Chris Gayle set up the victory as he hammered 41 by the 3rd over and was supported by Kohli, who was named player of the match for his fantastic unbeaten 44 from 19 balls. It was a thriller of a match which has earned them many accolades for performing well under pressure. Earlier, David Wiese took 2 wickets and Mitchell Starc took a single wicket to restrict SRH to 135. RCB were dealt a body blow by KXIP after being defeated by 22 runs in a rain-hit match yet again. RCB’s run chase got off to a good start with Kohli scoring 19 off 10 while Mandeep scored 20. But in the end as wickets kept tumbling, their lower order failed to reach the target. Overall, RCB will again heavily depend on the run-machine comprising of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. The problem lies with the middle order, which hasn’t had much of a chance to excel. Mitchell Starc has been steady as far as pace is concerned while Yuzuvendra Chahal is another bright spot in their bowling line-up with Harshal Patel also doing well. Overall, the team has the confidence and fire-power to win the upcoming match.
They defeated CSK by 6 wickets in their last match and it was a morale boosting win although it didn’t make a difference to their slim chances of qualifying; they chased down the target of 120 with Shreyas Iyer composing a fine 70 off 49. Yuvraj Singh also made his presence felt with eye-catching strokes as he posted 32 off 28. Zaheer Khan bowled with unremitting control and was rewarded with two wickets while Nadeem too bowled an economical spell and Albie Morkel snared couple of wickets. The Daredevils, in their last encounter, went close to victory but couldn’t hunt down the target against Sunrisers, who pulled off a stunning 6-run victory on Saturday. Kedar Jadhav blasted an unbeaten 63 off 34 while Quinton de Kock smashed 31-ball 50 runs. The top-order batsmen Shreyas Iyer and Quinton de Kock performed well in their last match while Yuvraj Singh also played a useful hand against CSK. On the bowling front, Zaheer Khan, Albie Morkel and Nadeem are in good form taking wickets at regular intervals and they do have the ability to win the upcoming match.
Both teams fought hard against their opponents in their previous matches and RCB has emerged as a consistent side with explosive top-order batsmen. On the other hand, Delhi will be fighting for pride here and will definitely give a stiff challenge to the hosts. Although the match could swing either way, we feel that RCB will keep its winning momentum going with a win here.
