About the Match
Daredevils kept their hopes alive with a last-ball win against Sunrisers on Friday; they now have 14 points after 13 outings and will take on the high-spirited Royal Challengers, who have catapulted into the 3rd position with a superior NRR and 14 points in their bag, at Raipur on 22nd May. The Challengers are on a high after winning 3 straight games to reach this stage and will try to keep their winning momentum going. The Daredevils on the other hand had peaked earlier but then faced couple of defeats recently leading them to slide down the table; their recent win has surely boosted their morale and they will try to come out all guns blazing on Sunday.
Chasing 159 runs, the Delhi top-order fumbled but Karun Nair held his nerves to post a sensational 83 off 59 and steer the team towards victory in the last ball. Pant did well to score 32 but his run-out in the 12th over caused a few hiccups. Earlier, Brathwaite had taken 2 wickets while Nathan Coulter-Nile and Duminy took a wicket each to stifle the opposition.
In the earlier match against RCB, they had won by 7 wickets after successfully chasing down a massive target of 192 runs thanks to a splendid 108 off just 51 balls by Quinton de Kock. Nair had performed well too, scoring an unbeaten 54. The bowlers had put up a good show but in the end, a fiery batting performance by the youngsters secured an impressive victory for the Daredevils.
In the upcoming match too, they will need to be geared up to take on the power hitters like Kohli, AB de Villiers and Gayle; the bowlers have their task cut out for them and the batting line-up must focus on building a strong foundation whether setting up a target or chasing one.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Three consecutive wins thanks to a glorious and consistent performance by the top-order batsmen; Kohli and AB de Villiers have charted the course for RCB’s good fortunes and they look good to repeat their match-winning show. Gayle brings flamboyancy to the attack while others like Rahul and Watson provide depth and stability. In the match against Kings XI, Kohli romped off to a brilliant 113 from just 50 balls while Gayle contributed with a quick fire 73 from 32 deliveries. Chahal registered figures of 4-25 while Watson and Aravind took 4 wickets between them to win the match by 82 runs.
Their comeback performance was against Gujarat Lions on home turf when Kohli and AB de Villiers posted 109 and 129 runs respectively from just 50+ balls each to register a record-IPL win by 144 runs. Chris Jordan was excellent with his bowling as he took 4-11 and Chahal continued with his spin magic taking 3 wickets; the bowlers joined hands in making the chase for 249 impossible for the Lions.
They are a strong batting unit with a unique bowling attack that never fails to deliver under crunch situations; RCB’s phenomenal recovery in their recent outings just goes to prove that they are a tough nut to crack here.
The Daredevils have performed under pressure to keep their campaign alive and they will surely leave no stone unturned to win the next game; however, RCB has a much better combination of in-form batsmen and ruthless bowlers, making them better placed to emerge victorious on Sunday
