About the Match
Coming at the back of a huge win against Rajasthan, Sunrisers Hyderabad face Delhi Daredevils on 10th May at Feroz Shah Kotla grounds. This reverse match between the two teams, with Delhi having just 4 points from 8 matches and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who now have 6 points from 7 matches, is being played on the home ground for team Delhi which has to change its attitude and style to remain in the reckoning in the competition. The Daredevils lost their earlier match against Sunrisers about 2 weeks ago by a slender margin of 4 runs, failing to chase the target of 184 runs which was set by the opponent by losing only one wicket whereas Dehi lost 4 wickets in the unsuccessful chase. We need to wait and see if the home team avenges this defeat or continue to remain at the bottom of the table.
Delhi Dare Devils
The previous 3 matches that Delhi played in their home ground were lost, first against Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets, next against Chennai Super Kings, which won in the penultimate ball with 8 wickets and the third against Knight Riders, who won by 8 wickets with 10 balls to spare. A streak of defeats with only 4 points from 8 matches and a NRR of -0.933 are difficult to recover from, unless something unexpected happens in all the remaining matches. Their inept fielding is the main cause for their miserable show so far, especially Karthik, who is very lethargic behind the stumps, though he has been good in batting. Murali Vijay and Duminy have been consistent with the bat; they have to find ways to put up a fighting total or plan well when chasing to beat other sides. As of now, they show no plans to improve the run rate and no one is making a realistic effort to stay at the wicket till half way to go for the killing after that. Except for Parnell and to some extent Shami, there is no penetrating bowling to dominate the opponent and they will have to re-strategize to overcome challenges here.
They successfully defended a total of 134 runs against the superior Rajasthan Royals, winning the match by a huge margin of 32 runs thereby having enough reasons to celebrate. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 4-14 turned the match for the team and with Steyn dismissing the hard-hitters, Karun Nair and Smith, the defense of their total became that much easier. Sharma, Henriques and Pathan too contributed with a wicket each whereas Mishra was the most economical of the lot; earlier, the batsmen started well with Dhawan scoring 33 off 20 balls, but the momentum couldn’t be continued with a string of dismissals in the middle order. Pathan’s run-a-ball unbeaten 21 deserves special mention as he steered the team to 134 runs target that was defended well in the end. With this win, the Sunrisers must now look to consolidate their position and take their campaign ahead.
Though Delhi has the home advantage, most of their decisions are not matching the strategy that’s required from them at this stage; with Hyderabad having the psychological advantage from their big win recently, the visitors are better placed to win this contest.
