About the Match
Delhi Daredevils are already knocked out of the tournament, but what they can do now is spoil the chances of other teams to qualify. Their next match is against Hyderabad Sunrisers on 4th May 2013 at Hyderabad. Delhi Daredevils have very quickly shown their potential beating KKR and Pune Warriors in succession. Sunrisers’ form has been a surprise in this tournament, but they have a formidable team and have shown that big names are not necessary to win games. Delhi would be playing this game for pride more than anything while Sunrisers have a clear cut aim to make it to the top four. It would be an interesting game to watch as things are getting really tighter at the top of the table.
Delhi Daredevils had a terrible first half of the season, and it was so bad that the chances of them bouncing back diminished very quickly thereafter. Now that they are beginning to get on to the right track, they can only destroy other teams’ hopes, which clearly suggest a nothing to lose situation. Delhi is a strong team on paper and it was clearly shown by the way they won their last two games. David Warner showed his class in the middle order too while Unmukt Justified his inclusion in the last game. Pathan is bowling well along with Umesh and Nadeem. Morkel seems to be catching up with his rhythm and form and appeared a different bowler in the last game. The opening combination still remains a worry as Jayawardene is too slow to start and then gets out cheaply. They might consider getting Roelef van der Merwe or Botha in for Jayawardene which would give them an option in bowling too. Delhi is a strong team with explosive players, and if any of those get going, it would be very hard to stop them.
Sunrisers may have surprised one and all with their success so far in the IPL, but it has been due to a collective team effort. Their bowlers have performed exceedingly well, often restricting the other team to a manageable score to chase. With Steyn, Sharma and Mishra, they have one of the IPLs better bowlers. Their batting has struggled in the season, but inclusion of Sammy definitely imparts some depth to their batting. Reliance on Shikhar Dhawan at the top is a major concern for them as no other player has done that well as far as their batting is concerned. SRH would have to raise their batting lineups to challenge in-form Delhi Daredevils.
Delhi Daredevils have already shown the glimpses of what they can do when in good form. Will they be able to carry on their momentum for yet another game? Sunrisers Hyderbad have been in good form, but their batting has struggled in this whole season. Their last loss against RR was largely due to the poor batting by their top order. Delhi has a decent bowling attack, and SRH would have to bat way better than they’ve done so far which appears pretty unlikely. Along with Delhi Daredevils’ batting, their bowling also is getting in to the groove. I’d bet on Delhi Daredevils as they appear to be a better balanced side than SRH.
