About the Match
Delhi Daredevils will lock horns against table toppers, Sunrisers Hyderabad at Raipur. The Sunrisers are already through to the playoffs, though, they will fight hard to avoid the eliminators round, and a win against the Daredevils will certainly put them in a safer position.
The season 9 of Indian Premier League has been nothing less than a roller-coaster ride for the Daredevils. The Zaheer Khan led the squad, whose stability has relied upon the young Indian blood in the middle orders, has surpassed expectations.
After a chaotic opening game against KKR, Delhi picked itself up from the dust, only to became one of the most balanced teams in IPL, until more recently, where they have flunked from a probable third to the sixth spot on the table. The Daredevils have lost four out of their last five fixtures, which is ironic in contrast to their record of the four out of five wins in matches played at the start of the season.
Two major factors have had a weakening effect on such a drastic change in form. Firstly, Zaheer Khan has always nagged about executing the playing XI, which is most suited for the playing conditions.
Secondly, Since the last ten matches, we have seen the underdogs totally outperforming the league leaders at several occasions now, which boils down to the fact that the experienced sides have thrown everything at opposition to lifting themselves up.
Delhi Daredevils, undoubtedly, has struggled in both ways; the lack of experience and inconsistent team selection. De Cock is the powerhouse and the prolific run machine for the Daredevils, and resting him against a struggling Rising Pune Supergiants turned out to be a big blow for Zaheer and co.
Daredevils were 50 runs short in that match from the average total, and the presence of De Cock would have had a winning impact on that game.
The Sunrisers will see off Delhi Daredevils but only to carry out some match practice before the playoffs, at least hypothetically. With the likes of the inspirational David Warner and the young gun, Mustafizur Rahman, the Sunrisers have been the most balanced and the most consistent team in the league by far.
Although Warner's batting prowess and services for the Sunrisers may have been overshadowed due to Kohli's epic tons, the Australian has been just as brilliant for his team, if not more.
The Sunrisers have accumulated 16 points after playing 12 games so far. They still have two more games in hand, and can avoid eliminators if they win both of the remaining fixtures. However, the Sunrisers have only lost a single game out of their previous 5, which, too, came against the Daredevils.
The Scenario was pretty similar; the Daredevils on the verge of an extended poor run while Sunrisers on a winning spree. Despite that, the Delhi Daredevils triumphed in the game.
However, more recently, another blow to the Sunrisers Hyderabad's remaining IPL 2016 campaign will be the hamstring injury to the experienced and in form, Ashish Nehra who has wrapped up seven wickets in the last four games.
Considering the recent form and the points table, Delhi Daredevils is the underdog while the Sunrisers are the hot favorite to come out victorious. But of course, even Mongol Khan fell when the least expected it.
Somehow, with the Daredevils having already thumped Warner XI previously, a Delhi Daredevils victory does not look too vague. Add to this factor the Daredevils' urge to play in the semis.
Nonetheless, with the number of upsets we have witnessed in the recent matches, surely, and we think so, too, that the gods of luck will favor the underdogs, the Delhi Daredevils
