This next match T20 Blast match is going to be played between Derbyshire and Durham, two teams that are still winless in the competition so far. Derbyshire has one point to its name thanks to a rained-out match, though and so they are above Durham in the current standings.
A poor start to the T20 Blast is something that makes this match very important for both teams. We have a different format for the tournament in this edition and teams have to be quicker off the block to be able to make it to Finals Day. A loss in this match could make things very difficult for both teams indeed.
Derbyshire vs Durham T20 Blast 2020 is going to be played at the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street on the 2nd of September 2020.
We thought Derbyshire put in a decent batting performance in its match against Lancashire but it came up short of a victory. Luis Reece, Wayne Madsen, and Leus du Plooy all got in the runs but they could not finish the job. Matthew Critchley also scored a quick 32 off 20 balls.
The openers would like to get into the run-scoring as well. Derbyshire depends a lot on Billy Godleman for its runs and his lack of runs is going to be concerning.
Overall, though, Derbyshire has a good batting lineup.
The bowling for Derbyshire looks a bit thin to us. They had McKieman, Conners, Madsen, Barnes, and Hughes all a part of the bowling attack in the previous match. Matthew Critchley bowled his full quota of overs and Luis Reece bowled three as well.
There are a lot of options in this bowling attack but we also think that they are lacking a gun death bowler. Derbyshire is vulnerable in the end overs and so taking early wickets even more important for them than other teams.
A strong team but one that has weaknesses to be exploited.
Billy Godleman, Luis Reece, Tom Wood, Leus du Plooy, AL Hughes, Matt Critchley, Anuj Dal, HR Hosein, Matt McKiernan, Edward Barnes, Sam Conners.
A poor bowling performance which allowed Leicestershire to get more runs than they should have and then a below-average batting performance saw Durham lose their third consecutive match of the season.
Durham has got off to the worst possible start and the signs are not very encouraging.
Their senior bowlers Paul Coughlin, Nathan Rimmington, and Liam Trevaskis are not being able to have the kind of impact that Durham would have liked. The wickets are not coming early enough and the runs from the opposition batsmen are also flowing.
Matty Potts bowled well in the previous match but some of the frontline bowlers need to have a very good game to get in form.
The batting seemed to have gotten off to an encouraging start with both Alex Lees and Scott Steel finding the boundaries early but Steel got out quickly as did Graham Clark afterward and the inning lost momentum.
Alex Lees was the highest scorer with 36 runs to his name. David Bedingham has been short of runs and his 27 should help him gain some confidence but overall the current form of the key Durham players is not good.
We would be pretty wary of backing them in this match although we know that anything can happen in T20 cricket.
Scott Steel, Alex Lees, Graham Clark, David Bedingham, Farhaan Behardien, Brydon Carse, Paul Coughlin, Ben Raine, Liam Trevaskis, Nathan Rimmington, Matthew Potts.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first but as we have seen the pitch does not really change much over the course of the match. The toss is not very dignificant here.

The forecast for Chester-le-Street is pretty decent for match day. We should be able to get a full game without any interruptions. The pitch at the venue is excellent for batting and the boundaries very encouraging to the power-hitters. Durham’s previous two opponents have scored nearly 190 and that would be somewhere around the par-score for this surface.
The team batting first would like nothing less than 185 to defend.
Derbyshire is a strong team that has not been able to turn the corner and get a win under its belt. Durham may be playing at home but its best players are looking pretty significantly out of touch. The batting is stronger on the Derbyshire side and that should help it win this match.
Bet on Derbyshire to win.
