Derbyshire

Derbyshire won its last match while chasing down a large total and that in itself is a bit ironic. The team has been struggling to get its batting right and not too many punters would have given it a good chance of chasing down 181.

As things happened, Luis Reece, Wayne Madsen, and Billy Godelman all played a hand in the victory. Luis Reece top-scored with 60 while Madsen remained not out on 59.

Alex Hughes finished things off with an aggressive cameo scoring 21 runs off just seven balls.

This is the kind of batting performance that the Derbyshire faithful have been waiting for. Unfortunately for the club, the batsmen have just not been able to do it consistently enough. They have a good chance of building on their last win against a weak Durham bowling attack.

The bowling was led by Ravi Rampaul who managed to pick three wickets in his four overs. To go for just 17 runs and pick up three wickets even when the opposition gets to 180 is commendable.

Boyd Rankin and Alex Hughes also bowled well but overall the Derbyshire bowling attack remains one of the weaker ones in this competition.

Durham

So much of the success that Durham has managed to achieve has rested on the shoulders of Darcy Short. The Aussie opener has not only been scoring runs but is bowling in almost each and every match as well.

Darcy Short has been joined by Peter Handscomb in the last few matches and that has added another dimension to the Durham side. Handscomb was the lone man fighting for Durham as they failed to chase down 145 even with the help of a 65 not out from him.

For Durham to win, Short and Handscomb must score runs. The batting around them is weak. Graham Clark and Scott Steel have played well on a few occasions but they don’t seem to be reliable enough to us.

The bowling is led by Matty Potts, Liam Trevaskis, and Nathan Rimmington. Potts picked up three wickets in his last game while Rimmington was hit all around the park. It was not a bad performance from the Durham bowling but they will know that they need to do better to try and cover up for their side’s batting shortcomings.
