Slowly but steadily, we are closing in on the ICC World T20 - Australia and all T20Is leading upto that will all be played in a quest to get the combination right for the marquee event. India have started their journey and we will slowly see the players getting shortlisted for the World Cup.
India's tour of Ireland showcased that talent that India have and we will see most of those players get an opportunity in their series against England as well. Prior to that though, India are to play Derbyshire and Northamptonshire in a couple of practice matches. Derbyshire and Northamptonshire have both punched well above their weight in the Vitality T20 Blast 2022 and will present a tough challenge to this young Indian side.
India will be up against Derbyshire in the first of the two practice matches. The match between the two sides will be played on 1st July 2022 at the County Ground, Derby.
Derbyshire have had a pretty good Vitality T20 Blast season thus far and while their qualification to the next round is still uncertain, it shouldn't matter when they take the field in this upcoming match against India. A win here will not only prove to be a confidence booster for them for their last remaining match in the T20 Blast, it would also inspire a lot of young players to do well.
While Derbyshire's historic T20 record is far from good, they would be delighted by the way they have done so far. They are currently placed at the third spot on the points table and a win here should be enough to push them to the knockouts.
Derbyshire will be led by Shan Masood, who has already scored heaps of runs in the Blast thus far. The likes of Leus du Plooy and Wayne Madsen both have been in terrific form of late and shouldn't be easy for the Indian bowlers to deal with. While bowling does look a little inexperienced for them on paper, they have delivered the goods and would be confident of doing so against the potent Indian lineup as well. This is a big test for Derbyshire before an important Blast game against Derbyshire and they would want to make the best use of it. If they are able to play to their potential, they should be able to present a tough challenge to the visitors.
AL Hughes, Brooke Guest, Ben Aitchison, George Scrimshaw, Hilton Cartwright, Leus du Plooy, Luis Reece, Matt McKiernan, Mark Watt, Shan Masood, Wayne Madsen.
This may not be a full-strength Indian side, but it isn't too far off from what a full-strength Indian side can do. Notably, Rohit Sharma will return as India's skipper and lead opener, adding to the experience at the top. However, he will not be available for this practice match and India is expected to continue with what they had in the series against Ireland. With the likes of Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya available in the middle-order, this batting lineup oozes class.
Although Jasprit Bumrah would not be available for this match, India's bowling attack looks decent, especially in these conditions. Bhuvneshwar Kumar can exploit swinging conditions as well as anyone and will be the biggest threat for the opponents. Having said that, we might well see him being rested and few of the younger players getting a chance.
Regardless of what playing eleven India decides to field here in this match, it will be a tough side to deal with. They have proven performers available right through and if they are able to play to their potential, they should cruise to an easy win in this first practice match.
Arshdeep Singh, Avesh khan, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Umran Malik, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Dinesh Karthik, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav.
This match may not be important for India from the statistics points of view, it might have an impact on the selections for the first match of the series against England. For Derbyshire, a win here could be a huge confidence-booster before their match against Durham and potentially the T20 Blast knockouts. Considering how the two sides have done thus far in their respective last few matches, there is little to choose between the two. However, India have a better-balanced side on paper and with experience available right throughout, they are better equipped to handle high pressure situations. Considering that and the other factors stated above, a bet on India winning should be the way to go here.
