These are early days in the tournament, but the North Group points table is evenly poised with almost all teams having a reasonably good chance to get into the top-four in their next couple of games. Nottinghamshire are currently at the fifth spot with one win from three matches and will be looking to bounce back to the winnings way when they meet Derbyshire in their upcoming fixture. The game will be played at County Ground, Derby on Friday, 26th July. Considering that we haven't seen many high-scoring games here at Derby, we can expect a hard battle between the bat and ball. Both the teams are well equipped with experience and fire-power in their order, and this match between the two is expected to be a cracking contest.
Derbyshire got off a solid start in the tournament, winning their first match by a convincing margin of five wickets against Yorkshire. However, they couldn't extend their winning run beyond the first match as they faced a heavy defeat at the hands of Birmingham Bears by 49 runs.
Derbyshire got to exactly the start they wanted, picking up two wickets in under four overs, but poor bowling from their middle over bowlers allowed the likes of Sam Hain and Adam Hose to get Birmingham Bears back in the game. While Ravi Rampaul bowled beautifully and conceded just 21 runs off his four overs, the remaining bowlers conceded 184 runs off 16 overs combined as the Bears racked up 205 runs on the board.
It's always difficult to chase down such a tall total when you lose early wickets and hence it proved for the Falcons. They lost Reece and Madsen in the first two overs of their innings, and even though du Plooy fought hard after that, his innings of 70 off just 43 deliveries just wasn't enough to take them across the line.
Luis Reece, BA Godleman, WL Madsen, A Leus du Plooy, Fynn Hudson, AL Hughes, MJJ Critchley, D Smit, MRJ Watt, Logan van Beek, Ravi Rampaul.
The Outlaws have had a balanced campaign in the tournament so far, and a lot hinges on their upcoming fixtures as far as their fate in the tournament is concerned. In the three matches played so far, they've won one, lost one, and one was washed out due to rain.
The Notts are coming off a reasonably big defeat, by 28 runs, at the hands of Worcestershire, and will be itching to get back to the winning ways. Earlier in the tournament, they defeated Northamptonshire by a big margin of seven wickets and will undoubtedly draw confidence from their win over them.
In their last match, Nottinghamshire superb batting lineup came to their rescue as everyone in their top-order contributed to the chase. Clarke and Hales combined well to establish a solid opening start, and it became pretty easy for the batsmen to follow. Christian and Moores got them across the line quite quickly at the end.
Joe Clarke, AD Hales, Ben Duckett, Jake Libby, Tom Moores, DT Christian, SR Patel, SI Wasim, Matthew Carter, Jake Ball, Harry Gurney.
Considering the position of both the sides at the ladder, this match is of significant importance for both the sides. A win for Notts will take them to the four positions in the points table, and the same goes for Derbyshire. Both the teams have won one and lost one match, and they both are coming off massive losses in their respective encounters. It's hard to separate the two sides, but comparing the two sides on paper, the Notts appear to be a slightly better balanced and are our pick to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
