Derbyshire thumped Yorkshire twice in two matches to rise from the second-last spot to the middle part of the table and they now have a realistic chance of qualification for the playoffs. They are set to take on Birmingham Bears, who too are coming on the back of a solid win against Leicestershire Foxes. The two teams are in close proximity of each other in the points table and a win here will be important for both the sides as far as progressing to the next round is concerned. Expect it to be an intriguing game of Cricket.
Derbyshire Falcons returned to contention for the playoffs as they completed a double over Yorkshire Vikings by defeating them, by 77 runs, for the second time in three days. Derbyshire have bounced back superbly after losing all of their first four matches.
Their brilliant victories against Yorkshire was followed by a loss against Nottinghamshire on 2nd August where they failed to chase down 166 set by Nottinghamshire. Derbyshire bowlers began well as Lokie Ferguson dismissed Riki Wessels following excellent good overs from Wahab Riaz and Ravi Rampaul. Alex Hughes and Ravi Rampaul were their only disappointments with the ball as they returned with the figures of 2-0-30-0 and 3-0-38-0 respectively.
Despite chasing a relatively easier total, Derbyshire failed miserably in trying too hard to get to the target too quickly. They promoted Wahab Riaz as a pinch hitter in a quest to get quick runs. Although, the experienced proved to be successful with him scoring 53 off 31 deliveries, the rest of the batsmen failed to play well, out of their positions. Matt Critchley was their second-highest scorer; he played a run a ball 27-runs knock. Derbyshire eventually fell short of the target by 9 runs.

Birmingham Bears registered their third victory in Vitality T20 Blast after a long time. However, this win has kept them hanging in contention for the playoffs, albeit by a thin thread.
The return of Chris Woakes to the team immediately reaped fruitful results for them as he picked up two wickets for 18 runs. Olly Stone, too, was excellent with the new ball and at the death. He returned with the figures of 4-0-22-3. Grant Elliot played the role of the fifth bowler to perfection. He not only stop Leics batsmen from getting away but also picked a couple of wickets.
After dismissing Leicestershire for a modest total of 143, it was supposed to be an easy chase for the Bears and it didn't prove to be any different. Although Ed Pollock departed quickly with only 21 runs on the board, Ian Bell, Adam Hose, and Sam Hain ensured an easy victory for the Bears. Thanks to the superb knock of 66 in just 34 deliveries by Hose, the Bears chased down the total in a little over 14 overs.

With Chris Woakes back in the team, Birmingham Bears have definitely gained in strength. They appear to be better balanced and bat deep with Chris Woakes more than capable to hit the ball out of the park. On the other hand, Derbyshire's batting still appears to be a little uncertain, especially after their performance against the Notts. Considering the teams on paper and the recent performances, Birmingham Bears are apparently better placed to win the upcoming encounter.
