About the Match

A pair of very comprehensive wins in their last matches means that both Northamptonshire and Derbyshire come into this match red hot. The defending champions have found their way near the top of the table while Derbyshire is in touching distance of the top spot themselves.

Match Preview

Two of the top three run scorers in the entire tournament right now are a part of the Derbyshire lineup and it is no surprise thus that Derbyshire are in close running to make it to the finals day. Wayne Madsen and Luis Reece are having the tournament of their dreams. Madsen is totaling 306 runs while Reece has 287 and both of them are scoring the runs at a strike of over 140. Reece scored a fantastic 97 not out in the last match to lead his team to victory over a strong Lancashire side and will be hoping to do something similar against the defending champions. Billy Godleman has one good inning of 70 to his name but has not really got the consistency going as of yet. He, Critchley, Wilson, and Hughes will all need to start contributing with runs if Derbyshire is to make their first ever finals day appearance. While Derbyshire’s batting exploits have left a number of people stunned, their bowling was always expected to be very competitive. The presence of Imran Tahir, Matt Henry and Hardus Viljoen in one team cannot be taken lightly and even though Henry has been giving away runs at an astronomical 11.19, he seemed to hit some amount of form in the last match. With Madsen and Cotton also contributing with the ball, Derbyshire might have all of its pieces falling into place at the right time.

There is something about T20 cricket that just brings out the best in the Steelbacks. The defending champions had started out a little slow but are hitting their levels quite easily now. The Worcestershire Rapids were never going to be a big threat to them but the manner in which they disposed of them will give tremendous confidence to their fans. The batting seems to be coming together very nicely for Northants led by Ben Duckett and Richard Levi. Duckett actually scored a duck in his last match but the Steelbacks still aced their chase in an indication of their batting depth. Levi, Rossington, Wakely, and Keogh all contributed with vital runs in the last match and we think that setting or chasing down massive scores for this team is not going to be a difficult task at all. The Steelbacks did not include Tabraiz Shamsi into their lineup for the last match and it is unclear if that was because of a niggle but we would have him in the starting lineup every time. Rory Kleinveldt had an excellent game last time around as did Richard Gleeson but the Steelbacks are definitely stronger with Shamsi in the side. The Northamptonshire team knows how to win at T20 and the confidence that comes from sustained success is a huge asset.

Pitch and Conditions

A lot of rain has been forecast for this match day with a slight drizzle before the match expected to only get stronger later on. Let us hope that the clouds miss the ground otherwise we may well be denied any cricket. The pitch may not get used at all but expect it to be excellent for batting if the opportunity arises.
