About the Match
With 3 consecutive wins, Dhaka Dynamites have gained the top spot with 6 points and will now take on Chittagong Vikings, who are placed 6th with only 2 points, on 15th November at Dhaka. The Dynamites defeated Khulna Titans by 4 wickets in the last game, the second time this season and previously have conquered Sylhet Sixers too. The Vikings, on the other hand, lost matches against Victorians and Titans recently, and need to make a comeback before it’s too late. Both sides will fight hard to overcome the challenges on the field, and whichever team can keep a cool head on its shoulders will be better placed to win on Wednesday.
Chasing 157 against Khulna Titans, the top-order collapsed like a pack of cards with players like Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine, Afridi and Cameron Delport getting out for single digits. Wicket-keeper batsman Jahurul Islam then steadied the innings by posting an unbeaten 45 while Kieron Pollard smashed 55 runs off just 24 balls to help them win the match by 4 wickets in a thrilling finish. Earlier, speedster Abu Hider Rony took 2-40 while spinners Afridi, Shakib-Al-Hasan and Narine claimed 1 wicket each.
Afridi’s superb spin performance landed him with 4 wickets in the game against Sylhet Sixers, and they restricted the opponents to a lowly 101. He was well supported by Sunil Narine, who claimed 3-10, and Abu Hider Rony, who dismissed 2 opponents. Evin Lewis and Shahid Afridi chased down the target easily by scoring 44 off 18 and 37 off 17 respectively. Shakib-Al-Hasan also contributed with 18 runs, to take the team to an 8-wicket victory.
They have shown an all-around performance till now and will be motivated to keep the winning momentum going. With match-winners like Sunil Narine, Afridi, Lewis and Shakib-Al-Hasan, Dhaka Dynamites surely seem to be a formidable force to reckon with.
Batting first against Victorians, they could muster only 139 runs despite a good show by openers Luke Ronchi and Soumya Sarkar, who scored 30 runs each. Dilshan and Sikandar Raza tried to keep the scoreboard ticking but they were cut short by the opposition. Misbah-ul-Haq and Chris Jordan revived the innings but could get the team to just 139. Spinners Munaweera and Sunzamul provided 2 wickets each but the pacers failed to break partnerships and lost the match by 6 wickets.
Against Titans, they faltered during the chase for 171 runs after the top-order fell quickly under pressure. Misbah and Sikandar made good efforts with the bat, scoring 30+ runs each but they couldn’t stop from losing the game by 18 runs. The batting line-up has players like Anamul Haque, Soumya Sarkar, Luke Ronchi, Misbah-ul-Haq and Sikandar Raza, who could try to set a better foundation whether batting first or during the chase.
The bowling department has speedsters like Taskin Ahmed, Subashis Roy and Tanbir Hayder, who will have to pull up their socks and provide breakthroughs at crucial situations.
The Vikings are on a slippery slope and are desperate for a win here; whereas Dhaka Dynamites are on a roll and will leave no stone unturned to keep their momentum going. The match could be a close contest but we feel that the Dynamites with the home advantage are better placed to win.
