About the Match
Both Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians are on a winning roll this season, and have proved to be tough contenders; while the Dynamites stand tall in the first position with 9 points, Comilla Victorians are in the 2nd place with 8 points in their bag. They will take on each other on 20th November at Dhaka, and this being their first encounter, it is expected to be quite a thrilling match. The Dynamites defeated Rajshahi Kings by 68 runs in the last match while Victorians emerged victorious against Rangpur Riders by 14 runs. Both teams will fight hard to keep their winning momentum going on Monday.
Evin Lewis, who has been doing well with the bat, posted a brilliant 64 off 38 batting first against Rajshahi Kings; Kieron Pollard at No.7 then kept the tempo going with an unbeaten 52 from 25 deliveries and helped them get to 201 runs. Kumar Sangakkara pitched in with a well-made 28 while Afridi and Jahurul Islam tried to keep the scoreboard ticking at the top. Abu Hider Rony, the left-arm pacer took 3 wickets later while Afridi spun his magic to claim 4-26 and stifle the opponents. Captain Shakib-Al-Hasan also contributed with 2 wickets while Mohammad Hossain too dismissed one wicket. They won the match comfortably by 68 runs thanks to an all-around performance.
Against Titans, they suffered setbacks early in the chase for 157 runs but a heroic performance by Kieron Pollard and Jahurul Islam saved them the game. While Pollard smashed 55 off 24, Islam remained unbeaten at 45 and steered the team to victory by 4 wickets. Hider Rony, Afridi, Sunil Narine and Shakib-Al-Hasan were among the wicket-takers, and they did well to restrict Titans.
Overall, the team has done well till now and have quite many match-winners on the side that give them the competitive advantage.
Batting first against Rangpur Riders, Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes did well to keep the scoreboard ticking; while Kayes scored 47 off 32, Iqbal posted 21 runs. Marlon Samuels then steadied the inning with 41 runs and they could reach a humble total of 153. The spinners then took charge as Rashid Khan and Mahedi Hasan claimed 2 wickets apiece and pacers Al-Amin Hossain and Hasan Ali removed one opponent each. They restricted Riders to 139 runs and won the match by 14 runs.
Previously, they defeated Chittagong Vikings by 6 wickets after restricting them to 139 and successfully chasing the target with 2 overs to spare. Imrul Kayes and Jos Buttler contributed with 40+ runs each while Liton Das did well to score 21 runs. Speedsters Mohammad Saifuddin and Dwayne Bravo took a wicket each while spinners Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan dismissed one opponent each to stifle the Vikings in the first innings.
The Victorians too have found the right balance in their bowling and batting units, and could prove to be a strong force for the hosts to defeat on Monday.
The Dynamites have a deep batting unit and a good mix of spinners and pacers, who can outwit Victorians; while Victorians too have done well in all departments of the game, we feel that the Dynamites with their superior batting strength are better placed to win on home turf.
