About the Match
The Kings suffered yet another loss, this time against the Victorians by 32 runs; they have slipped to the 6th position with 2 points and will take on table-toppers Dynamites at Chittagong on 21st November. The Dynamites also lost their last game against Titans by 9 runs, and will like to make a comeback here; they have 8 points after 6 matches and would like to retain the top position. It needs to be seen which team can use its resources well to bounce back.
Chasing 158 runs, the top-order consisting of players like Sangakkara, Mehedi Maruf, Coles and Nasir Hossain succumbed to pressure and were dismissed for single digits; all-rounders like Shakib Al Hasan and Bravo also couldn’t pull off something special. Mosaddek Hossain posted a heroic 35 off 28 while Seekugge Prasanna contributed with a quick fire 53 off 22 deliveries; however, their efforts were not enough to win the match and they were all out with 5 balls to spare.
Earlier, the bowlers took regular wickets but they couldn’t contain the opponents from getting the big runs; DJ Bravo registered 2-27 while Mohammad Shahid and Sunzamul Islam took a wicket each but the others gave away too many easy runs. In the match against Vikings, the bowling unit did well to defend 148 runs with Shahid taking 3 wickets with his pace skills, giving away only 23 runs. Coles, Bravo and Nasir Hossain took a wicket each and they helped win the match by 19 runs.
While the batting line-up has experienced batsmen like Sangakkara, Maruf, Shakib Al Hasan, Bravo, Nasir Hossain and others, they can also count on Mosaddek Hossain, Prasanna and other all-rounders to build the innings. The bowling has a good mix of pace and spin, which can outwit the Kings here.
They have lost three straight games now, and the players’ morale may be down but they do have good resources to bounce back. In the game against Victorians, except Mominul Haque, who posted 53 off 43 balls, the others gave up chasing 153 runs without a fight and they lost in a disappointing way, getting all-out for 120 by the 19th over. Farhad Reza, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Sammy took regular wickets but they ended up facing a competitive total, which the batsmen failed to achieve.
In the game against Vikings, the bowlers put up a dismal show, proving to be expensive; fast-bowlers Farhad Reza, Abul Hasan and Sammy went for over 10 runs per over. Samit Patel used his spin skills to take 2 wickets and stifle the run-rate but they faced a 191-run target in the end, which proved to be an uphill climb for the batsmen.
Sabbir Rahman scored 46 off 30 while Junaid Siddique contributed with 38; Umar Akmal and Mominul Haque scored 20+runs each but others down the line like Patel, Sammy and Siriwardana couldn’t keep the runs flowing and lost the match by 19 runs. They have good batsmen and bowlers, who can try to put their best foot forward here and help win the match.
The Dynamites are going strong with their domination on the field, and look better placed than Kings to conquer the challenges and emerge victorious on Monday
