About the Match
Rajshahi Kings registered an emphatic victory over the Vikings in their last outing by 33 runs; they are now placed 5th on the table with 8 points, and will take on 3rd place holders Dhaka Dynamites on 2nd December at Dhaka. The Dynamites suffered loss against Comilla Victorians recently, and will be eager to make a comeback with a win. When these two teams met earlier, the Dynamites had won the contest by a whopping 68 runs; it needs to be seen if they can dominate yet again here on Saturday.
Chasing 168 against Victorians proved to be an uphill climb for them as the top-order was annihilated; except Joe Denly, who scored 49, other players like Evin Lewis, Shakib Al Hasan and Sunil Narine were stranded at single digits. Kieron Pollard tried to revive the innings with a well-made 27 but it wasn’t enough to get across the finish line. Earlier, speedster Kevon Cooper claimed 3-42 while captain Shakib Al Hasan dismissed two opponents to restrict Victorians to 167. They have in-form bowlers like Abu Hider Rony, Mosaddek Hossain and spin magician Sunil Narine, who can stifle the Kings here.
Against Kings earlier, opener Evin Lewis had posted a smashing 64 off 38 to give them the required foundation batting first. Kieron Pollard had built up the scoreboard to 201 with his unbeaten 52 off 25 while others like Kumar Sangakkara had done well to keep the runs flowing. The bowlers led by Shahid Afridi’s stupendous 4-26 had stifled the Kings and steered the team to a 68-run win. Abu Hider Rony and Shakib Al Hasan had taken 5 wickets between them, and they bring variety to the attack.
Overall, the Dynamites have done well till now to pose a stiff challenge to the strong contenders this season; with the home advantage to their side, they could go back to the top of the table with a win.
Captain Darren Sammy led from the front as he posted a well-made 40 off 25 while batting first against Vikings in the last match. He got good support from Mushfiqur Rahim, James Franklin and Luke Wright, and they were able to set a 158-run target for the opposition. Young pacer Qazi Onik then showcased his talent, taking 4-17 and demolishing the Vikings’ batting line-up; Mustafizur Rahman also pitched in with 2-18 in 4 overs while spinner Usama Mir was the most economical giving less than 4 per over and taking a wicket to wrap up the game with a 33-run victory.
When they met Dynamites earlier, the bowlers had been ineffective in keeping the runs low; despite regular breakthroughs by Hossain Ali and Mehidy Hasan, they were posed with a target of 202 runs, which the batsmen couldn’t secure. Zakir Hasan was the lone fighter in the top-order getting 36 runs while Darren Sammy and Mehidy Hasan fought hard from the middle; however, they lost the match in the end by 68 runs.
The recent victory has boosted their morale and they could come out all guns blazing on Saturday to avenge their humiliating defeat earlier.
The Dynamites have slipped down to third position after losing their recent match, and will come back stronger to regain the top spot. Although the Kings could pose a stiff challenge, we feel that Dynamites with the home advantage are better placed to win on Saturday
