About the Match
Raj Kings conquered the spirited Titans in the second qualifier match, defeating them by a massive 7 wickets to make it to their maiden BPL Final, which will be against table-toppers Dynamites on 9th December at Dhaka. Previously in the first qualifier, the Dynamites handed out a major defeat to the Titans by 54 runs and emerged as the first finalist of the season; they will be determined to keep their domination going here and lift the trophy. On the other hand, Raj Kings who finished in the fourth place in the league, defeated the high flying Vikings in the eliminator and repeated their winning performance against Titans to cross the hurdles and make it to the finals. The final match will be closely fought and going by the looks of it, the contest could be a nail biting thriller.
Batting first against Titans, the top-order batsmen put up a dismal show and it was left to players like Russell and Bravo to rise to the occasion. While Russell revived the innings with his 46 off 25, Bravo ensured to get to an honourable total with his unbeaten 23. The duo then used their bowling skills to provide regular breakthroughs in the 2nd innings, and by taking 3 wickets each helped the team restrict the opponents.
Abu Jayed, Shakib Al Hasan, Sunzamul Islam and Mosaddek Hossain contributed well to demolish the opponents to 86 all-out. The match-winning all-rounders like Russell, Bravo and Shakib Al Hasan bring a distinct edge to the team that can prove to be a tough force to break.
They have a strong batting outfit with experienced players like Sangakkara, Nasir Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan, Russell and Bravo, who can frustrate the opposition with their hard-hitting skills but they would be cautious against the Raj Kings bowlers, who have successfully outwitted them in the past.
They have risen to the top with their exuberant performance against favourites Titans and made it to their first ever BBL finals; chasing 126 runs, middle order batsmen Sabbir Rahman, Franklin and all-rounder Afif Hossain brought in the fire power to steer the team safely home with 4 balls to spare. Earlier, Samit Patel’s superb 3-19 broke the Titans’ middle-order fightback and with help from Williams, Farhad Reza and Sammy, he contained the opposition to a lowly 125.
When they met Dynamites before in the league stage, spinners Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Patel had taken 2 wickets each to stifle the opponents to 138 runs, which the batsmen chased down with ease thanks to Patel’s brilliant 44 off 25 and good nicks by Rahman and Umar Akmal. They will draw inspiration from that win and try to repeat it here to lift the coveted prize.
Overall, the Kings have successfully managed to upset strong teams like Vikings and Titans, and they could well emerge as the victors this season.
Dominating the league throughout the Dynamites surely have a bolstered confidence but they won’t take the Kings lightly here. While both teams have strong match-winners and the contest could see some sparks fly between them, we feel that underdogs Raj Kings could shock the Dynamites and lift their maiden title on Friday.
