About the Match
After a string of victories, Dhaka Dynamites suffered defeat against Comilla Victorians in the last match by 4 wickets; they are now in the 2nd place with 9 points, and will take on Rangpur Riders, who are placed 5th with 4 points, on 21st November at Dhaka. Rangpur Riders defeated Sylhet Sixers by 7 runs, and they will be eager to improve their standings on the table. Dynamites, on the other hand, would be determined to make a comeback here and once again lead the pack. It needs to be seen which team can rise above the challenges, and emerge victorious on Tuesday.
Sunil Narine impressed with the bat as he scored a superb 76 off 45 batting first against Victorians; however, his team-mates excluding Kumar Sangakkara, who managed 28 runs, were all out for single digits and put up a dismal show. They could muster only 128 runs in the end, which was difficult for Narine and company to defend with the ball. Although the spinner took 2-17 and speedster Mohammad Amir also contributed with 2 wickets, they couldn’t stop Victorians from winning.
Against Rajshahi Kings, Evin lewis shone with the bat as he scored a brilliant 64 off 38 balls; Kieron Pollard played a useful knock, scoring a well-made half-century to take the total to 201. The bowlers then led by Shahid Afridi’s 4-26, defended the score to win the match by a whopping 68 runs. Abu Hider Rony claimed 3 wickets with his pace while Shakib Al Hasan also dismissed 2 wickets.
They have been going strong right from the start, but this recent loss exposed some weaknesses in their batting line-up, which they will be eager to improve. With the home advantage to their side, Dynamites will surely be confident to bounce back with a win here.
The batting line-up has hard-hitting stalwarts like Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Ravi Bopara and all-rounder Thisara Perera. While batting first against Sylhet Sixers, Gayle posted a well-made 50 while McCullum scored 33 off 21. Mohammad Mithun and Ravi Bopara contributed with 20+ runs each to take the total to 169. The bowlers then displayed confidence as they stifled the opposition’s run-flow and took regular wickets. Spinner Sohag Gazi and speedsters Rubel Hossain, Perera and captain Mustafa Mortaza dismissed a wicket each to help win the match by a close 7 runs.
Against Victorians, the top-order collapsed like a pack of card during the chase for 154. Despite Ravi Bopara’s unbeaten 48 and a heroic effort by Mithun who scored 31 off 26, they lost the match by 14 runs. Earlier, the bowlers did a commendable job to restrict Victorians with the bat; Mortaza and Perera each took 2 wickets while Rubel Hossain dismissed one opponent.
They have good resources with bat and ball, but are yet to come out all guns blazing. With a good strategy against Dynamites, they might be able to cause another upset here on Tuesday.
Having lost their recent match, the Dynamites will put up a tough fight here to go back to their winning ways; however, we feel that the maverick batsmen from the Riders team, could show their splendor here to take their side to another win.
