The form team of TNPL this year has been Dindigul Dragons. They were lucky to have the presence of a player like Ravi Ashwin in their side for the initial few matches but did not lose their way even after he left for India’s international matches. Four wins from five matches have left them in an excellent spot going into the knockouts. Their opponents for this match will be Karaikudi Kaaalai, another team that has lost just one match in the tournament so far.
Two form teams taking on each other as the business end of the tournament approaches. We are expecting a cracker of a match.
The Dindigul Dragons owe their success in the tournament so far largely to their batting lineup. In a tournament where none of the teams have a really special bowling attack, it is the most in-form batting side that has an advantage.
N Jagadeesan has been the standout batsman for the sides o far with 214 runs to his name so far. His style of play tends to be a little measured but he is still scoring a strike rate of over 130. With two fifties to his name and starts in almost every match, Jagadeesan will be the prime wicket for the opposition.
R Vivek, another player with two fifties in the tournament already, and NS Chaturved have been the other batting bulwarks for the side. Chaturved has hit 10 sixes, while Vivek has 8, and so both the players are providing the power to the team as well.
In the absence of Ashwin, M Abhinav, M Mohammad, and Adithya Arun have been the bowlers that have taken the leadership role in the Dindigul side. All their captain will be asking of them is to not have a horror day so that the batsmen can set up the win.
Narayan Jagadeesan, C Hari Nishanth, NS Chaturved, R Vivek, BA Sita Ram, M Mohammed, Adithya Arun, M Abhinav, Varun M Totadri, MEY Arun Mozhi, M Silambarasan.
Can Srikanth Aniruddha do this season what Washington Sundar did in the last one and win matches single handedly for his side? It remains to be seen, however, there is no dobt that no other batsman in this tournament has had a bigger impact so far.
217 runs from four innings studded with 14 sixes and a strike rate in excess of 165.64 are staggering numbers. The fact that no other batsman in the team has yet scored a fifty also underscores how important Aniruddha will be to the result of this match.
The Dindigul Dragons will feel that they have the match in the bag once they are able to get the wicket of Aniruddha, however, that may not be necessarily true.
Shajahan, Bafna, Aditya, Srinivasan have all played some good innings and have the potential to go big.
Unlike the other teams in this competition, Karaikudi Kaalai is not just about its batting. Yo Mahesh, Mohan Prasath, Bafna, and Rajkumar make up one of the better bowling units of the tournament and will test the Dindigul batting lineup for sure.
Yo Mahesh with 6 wickets and an economy rate of just about a run a ball is the lead bowler for Kaalai and his matchup against the Dindigul Dragons batting lineup will be decisive.
V Aditya, S Anirudha, Maan Bafna, Rajhamany Srinivasan, M Shajahan, R Kavin, S Swaminathan, Ashwath Mukumthan, Yo Mahesh, R Rajkumar, S Mohan Prasath.
The team winning the toss is likely to bat first
There is some rain that has been predicted for match day in Tirunelveli but nothing that shold prevent a full match from being played out. As far as the pitch goes, the dominance of the slower bowlers has been increasing in the last few matches and we think the surface will only slow up further.
A score of around 150 should be considered par.
Karaikudi Kaalai to win.
