The final of the TNPL is being played between the two best teams of the tournament, the Dindigul Dragons, and the Siechem Madurai Panthers. These were the teams that finished the group stages with most wins and these two also competed in the 1st qualifier. This will be the third meeting between the two sides in this edition of the tournament. The first two matches have been won by the Dindigul Dragons, who will go into this match as clear favorites. They would do well not to underestimate the Madurai Panthers, though, that beat a highly fancied Lyca Kovai Kings side in the second qualifier.
The Dindigul Dragons will believe that this tournament is theirs for the taking and they would not be too far from the truth. The two times they have played Madurai Panthers in this tournament they have ended up decimating them by huge margins. They beat them by 75 runs in the 1st qualifier, a massive victory in T20 cricket.
The Dragons have a strong batting side and they will depend on them to win them the finals. Hari Nishanth, N Jagadeesan, R Vivek, B Anirudh, and N Chaturved are all quite adept with the bat. The four top-order batsmen got a good start against the Panthers in the last match and they will be full of confidence when they face the same attack again.
Hari Nishanth struck five sixes in his 31 ball 57 and R Vivek Struck six sixes in his 25 ball 54. These were the two that were largely responsible for propelling their side to a large total although there were other contributions as well.
The Dragons will want to a little wary of employing the same gung-ho approach because a few early wickets could put them under pressure. We also think that if the Dindigul Dragons have to chase a decent score then the chance of them falling prey to pressure is much more.
The bowling is not a strong area for the Dindigul Dragons but they would like Sillambarasan, Mohammad, Trilok Nag and the others to have a good day in the finals.
C Hari Nishanth, Narayan Jagadeesan, R Vivek, B Anirudh Sita Ram, Ramalingam Rohit, M Mohammed, NS Chaturved, M Abhinav, M Silambarasan, H Trilok Nag, Varun M Totadri.
The Siechem Madurai Panthers won their second qualifier against a strong Lyca Kovai Kings thanks to a brilliant inning from Arun Karthik. With close to 400 runs in the tournament, Arun Karthik has been the heart and soul of the Madurai Panthers.
It has become common knowledge in the TNPL that the Madurai Panthers can be taken down with one wicket. If Arun Karthik goes early, then the Madurai Panthers crumble soon after. Even in the second qualifier, Arun Karthik scored 79 not out but other three batsmen in the top-4 got out cheaply.
The Madurai Panthers ca hope that Arun Karthik scores runs in the final as well but they cannot bank only on that happening. The other top-order players need to support him especially because the Dindigul Dragons are a strong batting side themselves.
Thalaivan Sargunam, D Rohit, P Chandran, and Tushar Raheja should take heart from the fact that the Dindigul Dragons bowling is pretty average. If they show a little commitment then they can take advantage and score easily.
The Panthers own bowlers will have a huge task ahead of them in trying to keep the opposition quiet. Rahil Shah, Varun Chakravarthi, Karthikeyan, and Tanwar need to have a great game otherwise they will get slaughtered at the hands of the Dindigul batsmen.
The first two times these two teams met the Madurai Panthers bowlers were unable to keep the scoring in check and effectively lost the game there itself.
Arun Karthik, Tushar Raheja, XT Sargunam, D Rohit, Shijit Chandran, Jagatheesan Kousik, Varun Chakravathi, AB Tanwar, R Karthikeyan, Rahil Shah, Lokesh Raj.
The team winning the toss is likely to bat first
A cloudy day with only a 10% chance of rain and high humidity has been forecast for match day. The pitch at the Chidambaram Stadium is expected to be good for batting with some help in it for the spinners. Not too many matches have been played in Chennai and the ground staff would have had enough time to be able to prepare a pitch that is good for the batsmen to score heavily on.
A score of around 170 can be considered as par.
The Dindigul Dragons have won the last four matches against the Madurai Panthers. They have also beaten them twice this season. Their stronger batting side and form heading into this match makes them favorites to win.
Back the Dindigul Dragons to win.
