The Dindigul Dragons will be one of the most closely followed teams in this edition of the TNPL because it has Ravichandran Ashwin as captain. The former golden boy of Indian cricket has lost his place in the limited overs side although he continues to be India’s first choice spinner in the longest format of the game. Ashwin will now be captaining the Dindigul Dragons until he departs for the tests in England.
The Dragons will be facing the Ruby Trichy Warriors in the opening match of this tournament. The Warriors will also have the presence of Murali Vijay in their team for a few matches which should make this is a very interesting opening encounter indeed.

All eyes will be on Ravichandran Ashwin in this match as he leads a side in what is basically a level of cricket he surpassed years ago. Such a situation can put the player in a lose-lose situation. A fantastic performance in TNPL 3 is not going to propel Ashwin in the national reckoning once again but a poor performance will definitely garner attention.
Apart from Ashwin, the Dragons will have the like of Abhinav Mukund and Hanuma Vihari to beef up the batting. The inclusion of Vihari was an astute one by the Dindigul Dragons team in our opinion as he has plenty of experience playing in the IPL.
N Jagadeesan, Anirudh Sita Ram, and Kaushik J are some of the local players that are worth keeping an eye on as well.

Ruby Trichy Warriors
The two highest scorers from the last edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League are still around in the team for the Ruby Trichy Warriors. Baba Inderjith and Bharath Shankar will be the spine of the Trichy Warriors batting once again although they do have Murali Vijay for company in this game.
Murali Vijay is a very clean hitter of the ball and has a penchant for scoring big runs. If he gets going against a weak bowling attack on a small ground then literally anything is possible.
Baba Inderjith is one of the highest rated young players coming from Tamil Nadu and will have a lot of expectations on his shoulders. The TNPL has been the route to the IPL for many players and that is going to be the aim for Inderjith as well.
Ashwin Crist made a lot of waves when he first came into the limelight but has since regressed a little. His bowling will be tested against a quality batting attack in this game.

Pitch and Conditions
Tirunelveli, which is where the matches will be played became very uneven as the tournament progressed in the previous editions so the batsmen will have to a little careful and assess the surface before teeing off. Spin will play a major role and the small boundaries will ensure that plenty of sixes are hit in the match.

Matches in the TNPL have been dictated by one or two players doing well and winning it for their team in the past. Both teams have players capable of doing the same in this game so it could come down to individual performances.
We personally feel that having someone like Murali Vijay in your side is going to be more valuable than Ravi Ashwin, at least in this format of the game.
