About the Match
Ruby Trichy Warriors won their first game of the season by defeating Super Giants by a narrow margin of 2 runs; they will take on Dindigul Dragons, who are placed 5th with 3 points, on 5th August at Tirunelveli. Warriors are down at No. 7 with just the 2 points so far and having made a breakthrough, will try to repeat the winning performance yet again on Saturday. The Dragons had earlier defeated Super Giants by a thumping 10 wickets but lost the game against Veerans by 5 wickets. It needs to be seen which team can keep a cool head above its shoulders to emerge victorious here.
Coming out to bat first against Veerans, the batting line-up collapsed very quickly with captain Ashwin Venkataraman scoring the lead score of 19 off 31 balls. Players like Murugan Ashwin, Subramania Siva, and Wilkins Victor were all out for single digits, and they could muster only 80 runs in the end. Speedster T Natarajan and spinner MS Sanjay took 2 scalps each while Wilkins Victor dismissed one opponent; however, they had too less to fight with and suffered a humiliating loss by 5 wickets.
Against Madurai Super Giants, medium-pacer Sunny Kumar Singh claimed a stupendous 3-29 while Natarajan took 2 scalps; spinner MS Sanjay continued his good form, dismissing 2 opponents while Murugan Ashwin also impressed with his spin skills, taking 2-29, helping restrict the Giants to 117. The chase saw openers Subramania Siva posting a heroic 84 off 41 deliveries while his partner Ganga Sridhar Raju contributed with 32 to steer the towards victory by 10 wickets.
They have a good mix of spin and pace, and could strategize well against Warriors on Saturday; if the top-order comes out all guns blazing whether in setting a target or during the chase, then the opposition will find it difficult to stop the Dragons from winning.
Ruby Trichy Warriors
Captain Baba Indrajith and opener Bharath Shankar put up a tremendous partnership to take the team to 187 runs batting first against Super Giants. While the skipper scored a superb 70 off just 37 balls, Shankar posted a well-made 53. Nilesh Subramanian and others down the line kept the scoreboard ticking. Later the bowlers led by spinner Akkil Srinath’s stupendous 4-33 demolished the opposition and kept the pressure high; medium-pacer Jagannathan Kaushik claimed 3-30 and helped them win the match by a close margin of 2 runs.
Against Veerans however, they failed to chase down 183 runs after a middle-order collapse. Indrajith and Shankar tried to start the innings on a positive note, scoring 30+ runs each but none below them could build good stands. They could muster only 125 runs in reply and lost the match by a whopping 57 runs. Earlier, bowlers Jagannathan Kaushik and Jagatheesan Kousik took 3 wickets between them but others proved to be expensive with the ball.
The first victory this season would surely have boosted their morale but they would need to execute the strategy to perfection on the ground if they want to outwit the Dindigul Dragons.
Both sides have strong bowlers, who can try to restrict the opposition in their run-flow; however, we feel that the Warriors have an in-form top-order that could come out all guns blazing, giving them an upper hand to win on Saturday.
