The Dolphins have had an excellent start to the Momentum ODI Cup 2020 winning both their matches so far. They now have an opportunity to extend their winning run against the Cape Cobras, a side that has been a bit patchy in the matches it has played.
The Cape Cobras have won one and lost one match putting them in the middle of the table at this early stage. The Momentum ODI Cup is not a very long tournament and it can be very difficult to recover after falling behind.
There has been rain around in most parts of South Africa which has affected cricket in the last few days but we are hoping for some respite and some better luck for this match.
Dolphins vs Cape Cobras Momentum ODI Cup 2020 is going to be played at the City Oval, Pietermaritzburg on the 9th of February 2020.
A stunning century from Grant Roelofsen allowed the Dolphins to chase down a stiff total against the Titans in their previous match. Chasing down 289 in under 40 over is never easy but that is exactly what the DLS adjusted task was in front of the Dolphins.
The team was also missing a few players because of South Africa’s national duty call-ups. Grant Roelofsen, though, took his opportunity and made sure that there was nothing left to chance as he scored 147 not out at a strike rate of 130.09
Sarel Erwee, Khaya Zondo, and Robbie Frylinck also played a couple of cameos to ensure that the run-rate never fell. With Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Marques Ackerman still to score runs in the tournament, the Dolphins batting lineup is shaping up very nicely.
None of the Dolphins bowlers were able to leave much of an impact in the previous match but it must be kept in mind that the conditions were very heavily in favor of the batsmen. Kerwin Mungroo, Imran Tahir, and Keshav Maharaj are all very impressive bowlers and we don’t think there are going to be too many matches where they don’t end up taking some wickets between them.
Robbie Frylinck adds a lot of experience to the attack as well to give the Dolphins a well-rounded appearance.
VBV Jaarsveld, Sarel Erwee, Khaya Zondo, Marques Ackerman, Grant Roelofsen, Sibonelo Makhanya, R Frylinck, K Maharaj, P Subrayen, Imran Tahir, Kerwin Mungroo.
The Cape Cobras were set a target of 321 to win the match against the Lions but could only manage 271 in return. Taken without context, 271 is not a bad total at all and shows that the batting unit is in decent touch.
Pieter Malan, Zubayr Hamza, and George Linde give the Cape Cobras a decent amount of depth in the batting department. We have seen big scores in the Momentum ODI Cup 2020 and so the onus is going to be on the batsmen to keep their good form going.
Dane Paterson, Dane Piedt, and Rory Kleinveldt are the players leading the bowling attack with the promising Thando Ntini in there for support as well. The bowling attack is not bad but it is not very threatening either.
The lack of quality spinners to keep a check on the scoring during the middle overs is something that could hurt the Cape Cobras in this match. The bowling came up short in the previous match as they allowed the opposition to score freely and this could become a recurring theme for the team moving forward in the tournament.

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first with the rain around.

There is a lot of rain forecast for the morning of the matchday but the weather is expected to improve in the afternoon. Hopefully, that means we may have some delays but still get the majority of the game to enjoy.
The pitch at Pietermartizburg is expected to be good for batting. There are a lot of runs to be had in the surface. This is one venue where the spinners in the Dolphins unit will get more purchase than almost anywhere else in South Africa.
Dream11 tips and Dream11 prediction for Dolphins vs Cape Cobras
We think the Dolphins are going to make it three from three after this match. They have a strong batting unit that is in form and a very good bowling attack as well. We think the spinners in the Dolphins cam are going to be the difference.
Bet on the Dolphins to win.
