There is a lot of fear about the health of South African cricket among its fans around the world and this is what makes the upcoming Momentum ODI Cup 2020 so important. Young players coming through the system and pushing for places in the side is something that everyone wants to see. South Africa has appointed Quinton de Kock as the captain looking ahead to the 2023 World Cup and young players know this is the best time to get noticed with some big performances.
The Dolphins and the Knights will be starting their Momentum One Day Cup 2020 campaign against each other. The tournament is pretty fast-paced and getting off to a fast start is very important. Teams can bounce back but a couple of defeats early on can really pile up the pressure.
Dolphins vs Knights Momentum ODI Cup 2020 is going to be played at Kingsmead, Durban on the 1st of February 2020.
The Dolphins have some very decent players to pick from to start the tournament. The batting is going to be led by Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Sarel Erwee, and Khaya Zondo. All three of these batsmen have been regular performers in South African domestic cricket and will be hoping to continue leading from the front.
Khaya Zondo is one of the players that seemed to be in the mix to step up to the national side but has just fallen off the boil a little. This is a good time for him to come back into the conversation once again.
The presence of two genuine all-rounders, Robbie Frylinck and Andile Phehlukwayo, gives the Dolphins a big advantage as well. Both these players are capable of changing the game with the ball and the bat. They also have a huge amount of experience playing limited-overs cricket around the world.
Imran Tahir and Keshav Maharaj feature in the squad for the Dolphins which immediately gives them a better spin attack than any other side in the competition. Both Maharaj and Tahir have struggled in the 50 over format in the past and so it will be interesting to see what they can bring to the table.
The pace-bowling stocks of the Dolphins are a bit thin and a lot will depend on the performance of the all-rounders.
Grant Roelofsen, VBV Jaarsveld, Sarel Erwee, Khaya Zondo, Marques Ackerman, R Frylinck, P Subrayen, Sibonelo Makhanya, Imran Tahir, K Maharaj, Kerwin Mungroo.
The Knights appear to be a bit light in terms of talent and depth in the squad at first glance. Keegan Petersen, Petrus Biljon, and Patrick Kruger are some of the names that are going to lead the batting unit for the Knights.
There are three decent all-rounders in the squad which will help add some depth to the side but overall the batting looks to be out-matched in comparison to the Dolphins. A similar tale is true for the bowling unit as well.
Shadly van Schalkwyk, Gerald Coetzee, and Shaun von Berg form a decent attack with some promise about it but they seem to be lacking in the necessary firepower to win too many matches.
The fifty over format shows up lack of quality much more than in the T20 format. In fact, the 50 over format is closer to a mini-test match than it is to an elongated version of T20.
It will take something exceptional from one of the Knights players to be able to win this match and we just don’t see that happening.
Wandile Makwetu, Keegan Petersen, PJ van Biljon, Grant Mokoena, Raynard van Tonder, Patrick Kruger, Obus Pienaar, Corne Dry, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Shaun von Berg, T Ntuli.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

The weather forecast for Durban is excellent and we should not have any interruptions in this match. The surface at Durban is always good for limited-overs cricket. There is a good amount of pace in the wicket which the batsmen enjoy. The groundsman also does not leave too much of grass so the bowlers will have to work hard.
We think the Dolphins are the better team in all aspects of the game. They should be able to win this match with ease no matter what the outcome of the toss is. A superior batting unit and a better-balanced team make them the favorite against the Knights in all conditions.
Bet on the Dolphins to win.
