DOL vs LIO Team Previews

Dolphins

If there's one team that can come close to the Lions in terms of consistency, potency, and balance, it is the Dolphins. The Dolphins have not only been terrific in this tournament but like Lions, they too were fabulous in the Momentum One Day Cup. They are tied on points for the top spot with Lions, separated only by the net run-rate.

Remarkably, all three of the Dolphins' wins have been pretty close if only scoreboards are concerned. Having said that, the Dolphins have been pretty dominant in the tournament and that has been visible in the confidence, with which the Dolphins have played on the ground.

In their last match as well although the scorecard shows that the Dolphins survived a narrow scare at the hands of the Warriors, it was an easy cruise for them in reality. Chasing an under-par total, the Dolphins always looked in control and were always ahead of the DLS total.

Up until now, almost everyone has done pretty well for the Dolphins, be it with the bat or with the ball. With the presence of versatile all-rounders in Robbie Frylicnk and Keshav Maharaj, the Dolphins bat deep and that could be a useful advantage to have in the shortest format of the game. Considering the firepower that the Dolphins have, Lions would not want to take them lightly.

Lions

Lions were one of the favorites to win the title and the way they have performed in the tournament thus far certainly justifies that tag. Although the Lions are the defending champions, it's been a while since they won their last title. After a splendid run in the Momentum One Day Cup, the Lions have looked fantastic and are likely to be the team to beat in this tournament as well. Up until now, the Lions have played three matches and are placed at the top of the table. With three wins and a terrific net run-rate, the Lions have already qualified and might decide to rest a couple of their key players.

In their most recent encounter, it was the Lions' bowlers who got them the win. Bowling first on a surface that had no demons, the Lions' bowlers bowled in tight channels at probing lengths against the Knights' batsmen. Sisanda Magala was, in particular, fantastic as he returned with the figures of 5 for 20 in his four overs. The other bowlers contributed well too as Lions wrapped the Knights for a total of just 106.

Although Lions lost a couple of early wickets, the total of 106 was never going to cause any troubles. With match-winning contributions from Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks, the Lions sealed the deal with eleven balls to spare and seven wickets in hand.

There are hardly any teams in the competition that comes close to challenge Lions as far as the team-balance is concerned. The Lions have an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience, which is enhanced further by the presence of versatile all-rounders. Almost everyone has already had at least one good performance to his name in the competition and that speaks volumes about the potency of the Lions. Given the way they have done in recent times, beating the Lions will not be an easy affair for the Dolphins.
