About the Match
With the last game against Super Kings washed away due to heavy rains, the Lahore Lions need to fight for survival in their match against Dolphins on 27th Sep at Bangalore, which will help them add more points to the 2 they have now because of the wash-out. On the other hand, the Dolphins are yet to earn points and this is a must-win match for them too if they want to keep their hopes alive. Both teams are at the bottom of the table in Group A and it’s going to be a tall order for them to make a comeback now; however, the contest will surely be interesting with the hard-hitters from both sides having a go at the bowlers, provided the rain gods let them have a full match on Saturday.
The bowlers have been effective in getting regular wickets but they need to be more disciplined and not give away the easy runs; Frylinck, Maharaj, Abbott, Alexander and Zondo have all been contributing well but must strategize well to contain the run-flow. Against Super Kings in the last match, the bowlers leaked away too many runs and the batsmen had to face a massive target of 243 runs, which was a tall order for them and they lost by 54 run margin, even though there were some good partnerships built in the top order. Delport and Chetty scored 30+ runs each but they crumbled under pressure, and the others down the line couldn’t shoulder the burden. In the previous match too, the top order had collapsed without a fight and this trend needs to discontinue if they want to bounce back; they need to be stronger in all departments of the game if they want to redeem themselves here and keep their hopes alive.
It was just their second game but the rains played havoc; however, they got 2 points for the wash-out thereby opening their points tally. They need to come back stronger against the Dolphins in the upcoming game if they want to make it through; while their bowlers have done well to contain top teams like Knight Riders in their chase, they couldn’t go for the kill and win the match. The batsmen too need to be sharper although Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal continued with their good form in the last match against Kolkata, scoring 59 off 42 and 40 off 24 balls respectively. All the others couldn’t put up a fight and collapsed, leaving the total to 151, which wasn’t going to be enough against a tough side like KKR. Players like SaadNasim, Hafeez and Jamshed need to step up and perform well for the cause of the team and give a better chance to the bowling squad to prove itself while defending a good total. The Dolphins have their own set of weaknesses which the Lions will definitely try to take advantage of.
With the weather playing funny, the teams will be hoping to have a full game on their hands; both sides need to fight for survival here and will give their best on Saturday. While Dolphins may find their road to recovery, the Lions have been performing better than the opponents and are more likely to win the match at Bangalore.
