About the Match
The TNPL is well and truly on its way with some exciting matches. This match between the Dindigul Dragons and Madurai Super Giant promises to be close as well now that Madurai has strengthened its team significantly from last season. Getting off to a good start will be important in this tournament and that is exactly what both the teams will be looking to do.
One of the more impressive teams last season, Dindigul started off with a loss against the defending champions in the previous match. Chasing a stiff target of 184, the Dragons ended up 7 runs short although there were some positives for them.
Sridhar Raju started the tournament brilliantly with 66 off 55 balls and R Vivek smashed 36 runs from just 13 balls coming later down the order. N Jagadeesan scored 397 runs last season and was responsible for much of the success that the Dindigul Dragons enjoyed but he could not score too many in this match.
The Dragons have a strong batting unit and we think some really big scores can be expected of them deeper into the tournament.
Their bowling unit contains two of the most impressive bowlers in this entire league, M Ashwin, and T Natrajan. While Ashwin jumped into the limelight because of his variations, T Natrajan could arguably be even more important to his team’s fortunes. Both of the bowlers are wickets takers but Natrajan’s ability to bowl the Yorkers consistently is absolutely invaluable.
The Dindigul Dragons is not a team to be taken lightly and boast of some powerful match winners with both the bat and ball.
Madurai Super Giant
Finishing dead last and failing to win a single match in the last edition was what the Madurai Super Giant team was able to achieve. This is why they have added 9 new faces to their squad and are set to turn their fortunes around. They also have a new coach, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan, to help them in the process.
The batting will be lead by Arun Karthik who was not available for all the matches last year. His big hitting prowess is going to be extremely crucial for Madurai as will his experience to guide the youngsters.
He and Shijit Chandran will the main stays of the batting while Shah Rukh Khan, Poiyamohzi and Suresh Kumar will be some players that fans will look forward to as well.
There is plenty of talent in this team but whether the youngsters are able to shed off their inhibitions and perform on the big stage remains to be seen. A couple of losses in this season will bring back the negativity among the players and supporters so a victory is an absolute must to their campaign.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at Dindigul was pretty treacherous last season but the players and support staff who have had a look at it are insisting that it is much better this time around. The ground is small and should offer plenty of opportunity for some big hits. A total of around 200 might be a par total if the ball is coming on to the bat.
The weather is expected to be dry and humid.
