DUR vs DER Match Prediction - Jul 09, 2021

We have only a few league matches to go in Vitality T20 Blast and competition is brewing at a frantic pace. We still have as many as seven candidates capable of progressing to the next round from North Group. Durham, who are currently placed at the edge of the qualification bucket, will need to do well in their remaining matches if they have to walk into the knockouts.

Up next in the tournament, Durham are set to face Derbyshire Falcons in a match that is arguably a must-win one for Durham. This match is to be played on the evening of Friday, 9th July 2021. Durham will be the hosts here as the match will be played at Emirates Riverside Cricket Ground, Chester-le-Street.

DUR vs DER Team Previews

Durham

Placed fourth on the ladder in the North Group, Durham have a tough road ahead. Their qualification is still in their own hands, but a loss here could make things a lot more difficult. Durham had a terrific start to their campaign this year, but their form has dwindled a bit as the tournament has progressed.

Durham currently have 11 points to their name with five wins and as many losses. They have a net run rate of 0.172, which can become a deciding factor if it comes to that. They haven't really been in the best of form in recent times, losing three of their last four matches. Besides, Ben Stokes and Brydon Carse will be unavailable for them in this upcoming match and that is definitely a bit hit, especially at the business end of the tournament.

In the early part of the tournament, Cameron Bancroft did exceedingly well for them but hasn't looked as good in his last five innings. He has gotten starts but has struggled to convert those into big innings. Sean Dickson and Matty Potts both looked good in their last couple of matches, but Durham would need better performance with the bat if they have to qualify for the next round. With the ball, however, things have looked a lot more settled with contributions coming in from almost everyone. With 13 wickets to his name, Matty Potts is the leading wicket-taker for Durham.

All in all, Durham are a good side, but the absence of Ben Stokes and Brydon Carse has certainly left a big void, which will be difficult to fill. Besides, they are coming off some deflating losses in the previous matches and might be low on confidence. If they can put that behind and start afresh in a way they did at the beginning of the Blast, they will be a tough side to deal with.

Durham Playing 11

David Bedingham, Graham Clark, CT Bancroft, Sean Dickson, Ned Eckersley, Ben Raine, Matty Pots, Harry Crawshaw, Scott Borthwick, Paul Van Meekeren, Doneathy.

Derbyshire

Derbyshire Falcons may have a small mathematical chance to qualify for the playoffs, but in all practicality, they no longer have a chance. We saw some changes in their team combination and leadership as the change in the skipper to Matt Critchley has delivered immediate results for them. From a total of 11 games, the Falcons have won just three. They have seven points to their name with a net run-rate of -0.375.

Just like Durham, Derbyshire Falcons, too, are coming off a rather sorry run in their recent matches. They went down without putting any fight against Worcestershire, losing the match by 14 runs. They did manage to register a tie against Nottinghamshire in a match prior to that and that tells that Derbyshire can topple any team on their day.

Derbyshire rely heavily on individual brilliance as they have many players who occupy the leading positions on the individual charts. Luis Reece and Leus du Plooy have both racked over 300 runs in the tournament so far and are, by far, the club's best batsmen. Apart from those two, however, we have not seen any consistent performance from any of their other batsmen.

With the ball, it's Logan van Beek, who has single-handedly carried the team. George Scrimshaw did well against the Bears, taking 4 wickets for 23, and will be looking to replicate his performance in the upcoming match as well.

As the tournament has progressed, we have seen contributions from other players pop up for Derbyshire. However, the onus still lies with the likes of Luis Reece, Leus du Plooy, and Logan van Beek to guide the team to dominating positions. If they can do that, Derbyshire will certainly be in business.

Derbyshire Playing 11

Luis Reece, Harry Came, Tom Wood, A Leus du Plooy, MJJ Critchley, Brooke Guest, Fynn Hudson Prentice, Alex Thomson, Logan van Beek, Jade Dernbach, George Scrimshaw.

DUR vs DER Betting Tips

While Derbyshire are already knocked out of the tournament, they still have a huge role to play. They have nothing to lose now and will likely be at their best. Durham, on the other hand, will be under tremendous pressure in this upcoming match and the absence of Ben Stokes and Brydon Carse isn't going to help them either. There isn't a lot to separate the side on the basis of recent performances, but Derbyshire Falcons do look good when it comes to individual factors. For that reason and the fact that they have nothing to lose in this upcoming match, we are placing our bets in favor of the Falcons. Back Derbyshire Falcons to win this one.
