Durham and Lancashire are going to be playing against each other to start their T20 Blast 20202 campaigns. This is a potential thriller on the opening day of the tournament. Both the teams are going to be missing some of their key players from last season and will need to rebalance quickly.
Can Durham get over the loss of their best two batsmen? Can Lancashire continue to be a force without the likes of Maxwell and Faulkner this season? Playing at home may give Durham a slight advantage but Lancashire Lightning is not a side to be underestimated.
Durham vs Lancashire T20 Blast 2020 is going to be played at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street on the 27th of August 2020.
Durham lost the services of Darcy Short at the end of the previous season, not that he is going to be playing for Surrey either this season but Durham is going to find it very hard to replace him. Not only was Darcy Short one of the best batsmen in the entire T20 Blast but he was also a very decent bowler.
Now that he is not a part of the Durham squad, players like Alex Lees, Scott Steel, and David Bedingham will need to lead the batting. Scott Steel is a very promising youngster than can strike the ball cleanly while Lees has been in terrific form in the Bob Willis trophy.
Graham Clark and Jack Burnham are going to add some depth to the batting but overall Durham is going to definitely miss Short.
Paul Coughlin, Nathan Rimmington, Matty Potts, and Brydon Carse are going to be leading the bowling attack. This is a very good lineup and one that is capable of winning matches for Durham. Potts and Rimmington are the bowlers to watch out for in particular.
Alex Lees, Scott Steel, Graham Clark, David Bedingham, Stuart Poynter, Brydon Carse, Paul Coughlin, Liam Trevaskis, Mark Wood, Matthew Potts, Nathan Rimmington.
One of the most consistently dangerous sides of the T20 Blast, The Lancashire Lightning squad is pretty heavily depleted this season. They are going to be without their overseas players and have plenty of players that are going to be a part of the England set=up during the summer.
Saqib Mahmood is not going to be available for the opening match since he is in the squad against Pakistan. Thankfully for Lancashire, they have Liam Livingstone available for the time being.
Lancashire has a very good T20 side even without its missing payers. The batting is going to be led by Liam Livingstone, Alex Davies, Keaton Jennings, and Dane Vilas. These are four quality batsmen any one of whom could win a T20 match on his own.
Matt Parkinson and Richard Gleeson will be a bit disadvantaged on the smaller grounds, however, they have the experience to adjust.
Lancashire Lightning is a bit more vulnerable than in recent years but it still has a lot of talent to call upon.
KK Jennings, Alex Davies, Steven Croft, DJ Vilas, Josh Bohannon, Rob Jones, Danny Lamb, Tom Hartley, Tom Bailey, Liam Hurt, Matt Parkinson.

There is a lot of rain that has been forecast in Chester-le-Street on match day. That is not something that either side would be happy about but there is nothing to be done. We could have a shortened match that will make the small boundaries at the ground particularly enticing.
A bit of moisture in the air could help the bowlers as well. The spinners may struggle to get some purchase off the surface, however.
A score of around 160 is going to be par in case we do get a full match.

Lancashire Lightning has a very good batting lineup and is much more powerful than Durham. The presence of Liam Livingstone gives it a real edge. The bowling lineups of both the teams are similar and Durham has home advantage but we are still skeptical of Durham’s ability to be able to replace Darcy Short.
Bet on Lancashire to win.
