With a superb start to the second half of Vitality T20 Blast, Durham Jets got back into the race for the playoffs. They are still hanging in in the tournament, albeit by a thin thread. They'll be looking to get another couple of wins on a trot to well and truly stand a shot at the knockouts. Up next in the tournament are they set to take on Leicestershire Foxes, who, too are coming off a splendid win over Yorkshire. Both sides have momentum and are in dire need of points. We expect them to come hard at each other in this upcoming match, which is to be played at Riverside Cricket Ground, Chester-le-Steet, Durham, on 13th September 2020.
Durham had a terrible start to the tournament, losing four of their first five matches. They were placed at the bottom of the points table before the beginning of the second half of the league stage. Riding on a brilliant performance by their batting in the last match, Durham Jets have found some hope, albeit only a glimmer of it. With a win against Derbyshire, Durham rose a spot on the ladder and are now placed at the fifth spot with three points to their name. Another couple of consecutive wins should push them in the top half of the North Group table and it is what they'll be desperately aiming for.
Batting first on a surface where no score would have been safe, Durham batsmen came out all guns blazing and made their intent clear as Alex Less set the tone with back to back boundaries on the first two deliveries of the match. Graham Clark matched him in the other over as he smashed Ed Barnes for 22 in an over. Durham openers completed their fifty partnership in just four overs before Clark was dismissed on the last delivery of the powerplay. Falcons were in for a surprise as Ben Raine proved to be a like for like replacement for Clarke.
Starting his innings in a rather sedate manner, Ben Raine absolutely exploded after getting set. He smashed six after six to up the ante before he eventually fell in the 18th over for a 39-ball 71. Alex Lees played a terrific sheet-anchor role as he carried the bat through with his 56-ball 77. With a 17-run knock that took just six deliveries, Brydon Carse finished Durham's innings with a flourish, scoring 223 in 20 overs.
A total of 223 is always difficult to chase down, regardless of the surface. All Durham bowlers were needed to do was to bowl in tight channels and they did perfectly that. Even though almost everyone got smashed for an odd boundary, the bowlers stuck to their plan, which resulted in Derbyshire losing wickets at regular intervals. Paul Coughlin and Nathan Rimmington returned with a couple of wickets each. Scott Stell bowled a brilliant spell upfront as he gave away just 26 runs in his four overs, picking up a wicket as well in the process.
Durham batting looked in shambles up until their last game and their top-order's performance would have instilled a lot of belief among the players. On paper, they were always a good team but lacked execution in the first half. The challenge for them will be to continue riding on their superb show in their last match. If they can do that, Durham Jets would certainly present their fans with a sweet surprise.
Alex Lees, Scott Steel, Graham Clark, David Bedingham, Farhaan Behardien, Ben Raine, Brydon Carse, Paul Coughlin, Liam Trevaskis, Matthew Potts, Nathan Rimmington.
It's not easy to defeat Yorkshire - not even when they are without Joe Root. Yorkshire is a fantastic team and Leicestershire Foxes just announced their candidature by rollicking through to chase down a tall total against the Vikings. With that win, the Foxes moved to the third spot on the points table, having seven points to their name with a net run-rate of -0.812.
Leicestershire may have done with the six matches so far, they haven't really had a chance to showcase their skills in the tournament yet. Out of a total of six matches, only four got completed. Of those four, Leicetershire managed to win three and lost one, which was against Nottinghamshire. Their recent victory over Yorkshire Vikings was perhaps just a teaser of what the Foxes are capable of.
Chasing 189, Leicestershire needed to get off the blocks quickly, but they failed to do so. They got off to a pretty sedate start with Gareth Delany taking his own sweet time. However, he turned the tables around after getting set. Together with Colin Ackermann, he swung the contest with the Foxes eventually needing 26 runs off the final three overs. It was a mere formality thereafter a Leicestershire won the match with three wickets in hand despite a tumble towards the end. Delany and Ackermann contributed with 64 and 58 respectively.
Earlier on the day, the Foxes' bowlers did a decent job of restricted Yorkshire to a total of fewer than 200 runs. As has been the case in the tournament thus far, Gareth Delany found success here as well, which proved to be instrumental in keeping Yorkshire down to a manageable total. He returned with the figures of 26 for 2 in his 3 overs and was the pick of the bowlers.
Up in the tournament so far, Leicestershire Foxes have surely punched above their weight. Thanks to brilliant team-work and contribution from the senior players, they are sitting comfortably in the top-half of the table. If they are able to continue performing as they have done so far, Foxes will be one of the most difficult teams to defeat in the North Group of Vitality T20 Blast.
Colin Ackermann, Harry Dearden, Gareth Delany, Arron Lilley, Lewis Hill, Tom Taylor, Nick Welch, Ben Mike, Callum Parkinson, Gavin Griffiths, William Davis.

It is an important match for both sides. While Leicestershire Foxes will be looking to move higher up the table and occupy the second spot, Durham Jets will want a win to continue to stay in the hunt. Both teams will be motivated to do well and there is nothing to separate the sides as far as motivation to win is concerned. Durham Jets will be playing at their home turf and will have the advantage of knowing the conditions better. In addition to that, their batting looked in phenomenal form in the last match. Having said that, considering that Leicestershire Foxes have been more consistent in the tournament so far and will be brimming with confidence with a spectacular win in their next game, betting on the Foxes' win should be the way to go in the upcoming encounter.
