DUR vs NOR Match Prediction - Jul 19, 2019

The Vitality T20 Blast 2019 is a wonderful T20 competition in many regards but it is going to supplanted by the Hundred from next summer on. The T20 Blast will still exist but at the beginning of the English summer rather than smack bang in the middle of it as the highlight.

This does not mean that the T20 Blast 2019 is not important. We are sure all the counties would be keen to put on a great show and prove that there is space for a larger, widespread, T20 format also.

In this match, we have the Durham Jets taking on the Northamptonshire Steelbacks. Durham finished second in the North group in 2018 and was a very strong side. It has managed to retain most of its players although the loss of Paul Collingwood and the likely unavailability of some of their English internationals will hurt.

The Steelbacks finished dead last in the 2018 tournament. The T20 Blast 2019 is going to be a tough grind for them because their exodus of players has continued.

DUR vs NOR Team Previews

Durham

Durham outperformed expectations last season and had as many wins as the first-placed side in the North Group. It was only net run-rate that separated them from finishing on top of the group. T20 Blast 2019 is going to be a lot more challenging for Durham.

They are going to be without the services of Tom Latham, Imran Tahir, and Paul Collingwood. All three of these players played a major role for them in 2018 and it is not going to be easy to replace them.

Durham has the services of Cameron Bancroft, Darcy Short, and Alex Lees to shore up the batting while Ben Raine has been a very good addition as well.

The Ashes is going to e played this summer and we think that removes any chance of Ben Stokes or Mark Wood being risked for the T20 Blast 2019 unless Durham is playing in the playoff stages.

The bowling lineup is in pretty good hands thanks to the presence of Nathan Rimmington, James Weighall, and Ben Raine.

The Durham side is still pretty strong and should fancy itself against the Northamptonshire STeelbacks but we don’t think they are going to be able to just turn up and start winning matches immediately. The core of their T20 side is going to have to be rebuilt and that can take longer than expected.

Durham Playing 11

D'Arcy Short, Scott Steel, Graham Clark, Ben Raine, Alex Lees, Jack Burnham, Stuart Poynter, Liam Trevaskis, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, Nathan Rimmington.

Northamptonshire

The Northamptonshire Steelbacks have lost Ben Duckett from their squad as well during the off-season and that only adds to the long list of players that are no longer a part of its squad. The management has managed to recruit two highly-rated international all-rounders to give it some momentum in the form of Faheem Ashraf and Dwayne Pretorius but there is a lot of hard work ahead.

The batting order depends on the performances of Richard Levi, Josh Cobb, and Alex Wakely.

We like Alex Wakely and Josh Cobb but think that Richard Levi is past his prime. It has been quite a few years since he dominated the T20 Blast and helped the STeelbacks become a force in the shortest format of the game.

He is just too inconsistent to be considered a frontline batsman around which the team can build an entire campaign.

The Northamptonshire bowling is pretty weak and is going to struggle this entire season also. We don’t think Northamptonshire is going to be able to improve its position from last year too much.

They certainly look outmatched against Durham at the moment.

Northamptonshire Playing 11

Charlie Thurston, Adam Rossington, Josh Cobb, Alex Wakely, Rob Keogh, Dwaine Pretorius, Faheem Ashraf, Graeme White, Matt Coles, Tom Sole, Ben Sanderson.

DUR vs NOR Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat second. The rain around may leave some moisture on the pitch and offer some help to the bowlers first up.

Pitch and Conditions

Durham vs Northamptonshire Vitality T20 Blast 2019 is going to be played at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street. There is some rain predicted at Chester Le Street on match day but it is expected to settle down by the time the match gets underway.

We may have a rain delay and some overcast conditions to start out with but they should improve soon enough to allow us a full T20 match.

The pitch at Chester Le Street is excellent for batting and we don’t expect anything different for this match.

DUR vs NOR Dream11 Prediction

Dream11 Prediction for Durham vs Northamptonshire Vitality T20 Blast 2019 is going to be built around the two big Aussie batsmen in this match. There are some well known T20 players in both sides and a few lesser-known ones that can give the Dream11 team for Durham vs Northamptonshire Vitality T20 Blast 2019 an edge.

Wicketkeeper: Adam Rossington and Stuart Poynter are the two wicketkeeper-batsmen we have chosen for this match. Both are tidy behind the stumps and can contribute with some handy runs.

Batsmen: Alex Wakely, Cameron Bancroft, and Richard Levi are the three batsmen we have chosen. Bancroft is a highly underrated T20 player and can really make an impact up the order. Picking Levi is a bit of a risk but hopefully, he is going to be in good enough form to make his ultra-aggressive methods work.

All-rounders: We don't think Ben Stokes is going to be playing this match but if he is available then he should definitely be picked. Darcy SHort, Jason Holder, and Dwayne Pretorius are the three all-rounders we have picked. I Holder is not playing this match then pick Faheem Ashraf.

Bowlers: Nathan Rimmington, Ben Sanderson, and James Weighall are the three bowlers we like for this match.

Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Cameron Bancroft as the captain and Darcy Short as the vice-captain of our Dream11 picks for Durham vs Northamptonshire T20 Blast 2019.
