We have eighteen teams featuring in Vitality T20 Blast and only two teams have less than two points of the game. They are at the bottom of the table in their respective groups. One of those two teams, surprisingly, is Worcestershire Rapids, and the other one is Durham Jets. As the tournament is shortened, early losses can have a significant impact at the back-end of the tournament.
Durham Jets will be looking to get back to the winning ways when they take on Yorkshire in an upcoming North Group encounter. Yorkshire Vikings, although still not in the top half of the table, are in a better position. The two teams are set to lock horns on 4th September at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-street, Riverside Ground.
Like all other teams in the tournament, Durham too haven't stayed unaffected by the weather so far. Their last match, against Derbyshire, was abandoned due to rain, taking their winless streak to four in the tournament. Although they aren't too far off from the rest of the teams on the ladder, the gap could quickly increase if they do not get a few favorable results in their next few matches.
Durham are coming off an abandoned match and with no wins on the board yet, they'll be desperate to get off the mark. Whether the wash-out they had against Derbyshire prevented further pain or blighted their campaign is up for debate. However, the fact that they were poor in their first three matches cannot be denied.
Prior to the wash-out, the Jets had played three games and they registered losses in all three of those. While their batting still did a reasonable job in those matches, except for the one against Leicestershire, their bowling looked dismal in all the matches. In the tournament so far, Durham bowlers have conceded runs at an average economy rate of 9.13, which is high even after taking the nature of surfaces into consideration.
Their performance against Leicestershire was the worst of the lot. Chasing a total of 177, their batsmen failed to play according to the situation and perished playing unnecessary shots. Their bowlers although kept picking up regular wickets, failed to keep the scoring rate down as eventually, the Foxes managed to post an imposing total on the board.
Durham Jets has undoubtedly been the worst-performing sides of the group so far and the points table reflects that. Having said that, the Jets are a pretty good side on paper and will be looking to get the most out of their on-paper strength. If they can do that, the Vikings will have their work cut-out.
Farhaan Behardien, Alex Lees, Graham Clark, David Bedingham, Ben Raine, Paul Coughlin, Brydon Carse, Scott Steel, Nathan Rimmington, Liam Trevaskis, Matthew Potts.
As their fourth position on the points table reflects, the Vikings haven't really played poorly. It's just that two of their four matches were washed away due to rain and they lost one of the remaining matches. They have four points in their kitty coupled with a stupendous net run-rate of 2.242, which is best among all teams in the group.
Yorkshire had a humdrum start to their campaign as they had to share points with Nottinghamshire on account of inclement weather conditions. They quickly shrugged that game off and registered a massive 99-run win over Derbyshire in their subsequent match. They posted 220 batting first against Derbyshire and restricted Derbyshire's response to just 121. The Vikings, however, weren't as fortunate in their next game as they were outplayed by Nottinghamshire. Nottinghamshire chased down their total of 190 with significant ease to hand the Yorks their first defeat of the competition.
On paper, Yorkshire is a phenomenally balanced unit and the addition of Joe Root has further enhanced their balance. They have an excellent amalgamation of finesse and power and have experience available right through their lineup. Although they are coming off a loss, they could consider themselves a tad unfortunate as they found themselves at the received end of a brilliant knock by Ben Duckett. Given the Vikings' lineup, such instances should be far and few. Considering their on-paper strength, they'll not be an easy side to deal with in the upcoming encounter.
Adam Lyth, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, JE Root, Harry Brook, Will Fraine, Jonathan Tattersall, David Willey, Jordan Thompson, Matthew Fisher, MW Pillans, Josh Poysden.

While Durham Jets and Yorkshire Vikings have only one team between them on the points table, there is a difference of day and night between the performances of the two teams. In addition to that, Yorkshire Vikings are a better-balanced and more equipped team, at least on paper. Considering those factors, Yorkshire Vikings are firm favorites to emerge on top in this upcoming fixture.
