Durham are yet to feature in the Vitality T20 Blast and will be one of the last team to get off the mark as far as playing a match is concerned. They are set to lock horns with Yorkshire in a North Group encounter, which is to be played on 11th June 2021 at The Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
Durham had a disappointing run last year as they missed out on a playoff spot. Coached by James Franklin, Durham will have a point to prove in this competition and the availability of Ben Stokes will certainly boost their confidence.
Durham have an excellent bowling attack with the likes of Mark Wood, Matty Potts, Liam Trevaskis, and Ben Stokes available. It will certainly be their strength in the upcoming match, but they do appear a little like of batting power. Also, Wood will not be available unit England's match against New Zealand is over. Arguably, they look over-reliant on Cameron Bancroft and Ben Stokes. If the rest of the players are able to step up their game, beating Durham could be a challenge.
CT Bancroft, David Bedingham, Scott Borthwick, Graham Clark, Brydon Carse, Paul Coughlin, Sean Dickson, Ben Raine, Ned Eckersley, Liam Trevaskis, Matty Pots.
Yorkshire got off to a terrific start to the tournament, beating Birmingham Bears by a wide margin of six wickets in their opening game of the tournament. With this win, they climbed to the top half of the points table and will be looking to maintain their position with yet another successful outing in this upcoming match.
Yorkshire's win against the Bears was primarily set up by their bowlers, who restricted Birmingham Bears to a modest total of 144 on a decent batting strip. David Willey, Matthew Wade, Lokie Ferguson, and Jordan Thompson all chipped in with wickets with Thompson leading the pack as he picked 3 wickets for 23 in his four. Even though they lost a few wickets here and there, Yorkshire's chase was more or less comfortable. They eventually sealed the deal with nine balls to spare. Jonny Bairstow top-scored with a quick-fire 34.
All in all, with their international players available, Yorkshire looks like a formidable unit. They have an experienced bowling unit that is coupled with an attacking batting lineup. Keeping Yorkshire quiet is going to be mighty difficult, especially given the form they showed in their first match.
Adam Lyth, Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Harry Brook, David Willey, Will Fraine, Jordan Thompson, Matthew Waite, Lockie Ferguson, AU Rashid.
This is the first match for Durham and they would certainly want to get in the reckoning right away. Yorkshire, however, have the momentum and will certainly hold the advantage. Besides, they have a better-balanced unit between the two, at least on paper. Therefore, we will be placing our money on a Yorkshire win and so should you.
