About the Match
Amidst the glory of ICC Champions Trophy and thrill Ashes 2013, we have another enthralling competition in English Domestic Tournament, Friends Life T20. It has already started and the first match of North Group would be played between Durham Dynamos and Lancashire Lightning on 28th June 2013 at Chester-Le-Street at 4:30pm GMT. Both teams would love to take advantage early on in the tournament to make their qualification to the quarterfinals easier. T20 brings all the excitement and thrill to Cricket and this game might turn out to be a cracker.
In the last five years, Durham has made it to the quarterfinal twice and once to the final. This time they’d be looking to go a step further to win the trophy. Durham does not have the services of any overseas player because they’ve haven’t signed any. Durham is full of local talent with players like Paul Collingwood and Phil Mustard. They bowling attack is led by experienced Graham Onions and Stephen Harmison. The experience of Paul Collingwood and Mark Stoneman would certainly be handy for Durham side. Durham’s record in Yorkshire Bank has been impressive as well. They are leading their group with five wins out of eight. Ben Stokes might not be available for this game due to the fact that England plays a T20 with New Zealand just a day before the match. However, Durham still remains a tough side to beat with experience of Collingwood and Mustard in batting with Onions lethal with the ball.
Lancashire might be one of the most consistent teams as far as domestic T20 competition is concerned, but they are still looking for the title. Lancashire has signed Mitchell McClenaghan for this season to improve their bowling attack. Lancashire’s batting is quite strong with Simon Katich and Ashwell Prince bringing experience to their squad. Jamie Anderson along with the Kiwi fast bowler can make a lot of difference due to assistance they might get from the pace friendly pitches in England. They too are having an excellent Yorkshire Bank 40 Season with four wins out of eight matches played. They are placed at second position in group B and would be looking to take their form in the shortest version of the game as well. Lancashire has always been a tough contender in Friends Life T20 and with the team they have, they’d continue to be a threat for other sides.
It is the first game from North Group in Friends Life T20 and both The Dynamos and Lightning would love to make it count. Durham Dynamos have excellent batting lineup with good enough bowling lineup while Lancashire’s bowling is remarkably good with decent batting. The match would be played at Durham’s home ground and the crowd support and familiarity with the conditions would certainly help the home side. Durham seems to be in good form and with home conditions and excellent side on paper, I think they will prevail over Lancashire in their first T20 match.
