About the Match
The Durham Jets will be taking on the Birmingham Bears in an important match which the Bears must win to move out their current deadlock with three other teams on the same points. Durham has nothing to lose and this could make them a very dangerous opponent.
The Durham Jets are well and truly out of the NatWest T20 competition with only two points to their name but they have recorded three victories to their name. Considering the fact that there are plenty of teams with 4 and 5 wins for the tournament, Durham has not had the total disaster this season was turning out to be.
The return of Keaton Jennings to the top of the order has added some heft to a batting line-up that was completely dependent on Paul Collingwood. The veteran Collingwood has played some of the most remarkable innings this season and now has 340 runs in the competition to his name.
Tom Latham is also back from injury and scored 62 in the win against Worcestershire in the last match.
Three strong batsmen at the top followed by Paul Coughlin makes this Durham team a much stronger opponent than they were at the start of the season.
That is not to say that Durham has been transformed into a fantastic team overnight though. Their bowling attack is still extremely limited. The majority of the burden to take wickets and keep the runs down falls on Pringle, Weighell, and Collingwood.
All three competent bowlers but not the kinds that will scare opposition batsmen. Durham has had a poor tournament and we wonder if they have the motivation that some of their opponents will have in these closing stages of the tournament.
A tough loss against the Nottinghamshire Outlaws in their last match has left the Bears in a tricky position. They are currently on 13 points with three other teams in the table and have the worst net run rate among them all.
The Bears could very well struggle to make to the final four despite having an excellent season by most accounts.
Sam Hain played an astonishing inning of 82 not out in the last match but still ended up on the losing side. On the bright side though Hain has been carrying some excellent form in the last couple of matches.
The Bears need to figure out how to get Colin de Grandhomme and Grant Elliot more into the game otherwise they just seem to be wasted in this team. Ian Bell has been struggling of late and maybe it would be better to shift him down the order in place of someone more aggressive like Hose.
Jeetan Patel continues to have a dream NatWest T20 Blast with 17 wickets to his name and will look to wreak havoc against the left handers at the top of the Durham batting order. Plenty of support from Stone and Hannon-Dalby means that Warwickshire has a decent bowling attack on which they can count on.
Pitch and Conditions
A clear day with increasing humidity as the day progresses has been forecast for match day. The pitch at Chester-le-Street is a little on the slower side and the bowlers can get some swing with a little could cover around. After the first couple of overs though the batsmen should have no problem in adjusting to the pace and hitting through the line.
