ENG vs AUS Match Prediction - Sep 04, 2019

The Ashes 2019 is currently locked at 1-1 after one of the best test matches in the history of cricket. It has been that kind of a summer of cricket in England where superlatives seem insufficient to describe the kind of performances we have seen.

What is going to be the effect of the dramatic test match on the two teams? Will Australia crumble as they did in 1981 after Ian Botham’s heroics? Will England be complacent and forget that they were nearly knocked out by an Australian side missing Steve Smith?

The fourth Ashes 2019 test is going to be played at the Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester a ground where England has dominated all its opponents in the recent past. There could be some important changes in the playing eleven for both teams and there is a lot to look forward to.

England vs Australia Ashed 2019 4th test match is going to be played at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester starting on the 4th of September 2019.

ENG vs AUS Team Previews

England

It took one of the best innings seen in test cricket to keep England in the series because they looked down and out for all money. The relief in the English camp would be tremendous but a failure to recognize their weaknesses could be fatal to their chances.

England was bowled out for 67 in the first test and everyone apart from Ben Stokes struggled in the second inning as well. Joe Root’s inability to convert his fifties into hundreds is becoming too large a pattern to ignore and the skipper is going to be under pressure to avoid losing a series to Australia at home after 18 years.

Let’s start with the openers. Rory Burns is safe for the time being thanks to his century in the first test but Jason Roy has looked anything but convincing. Will England continue to stick with him in this crucial match? We think they will but don’t think things are going to change too much for Jason Roy.

Joe Denly played very well for his fifty and should retain his position at number four now. That makes the English middle order relatively well-settled with Root, Denly, Stokes, and Bairstow. Jos Buttler is struggling in test cricket and although he does play a brilliant inning now and then, does England need someone more consistent?

Looking at the squad for the first test, only Sam Curran can possibly be included as a back-up but that is quite unlikely.

James Anderson has been ruled out of the series so England is going to go with pretty much the same attack at Old Trafford. Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad are a lock while Jack Leach did not do too much wrong either.

Chris Woakes is the only bowler that could be replaced with Sam Curran if the English team wants to try something different against Steve Smith in this match.

England has been outplayed by Australia in this series till now and it is only Ben Stokes that has kept it alive. Miracles are not something we like to bank upon while placing our bets.

England Playing 11

Rory Burns, Joe Denly, JE Root, JJ Roy, BA Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Jofra Chioke Archer, Craig Overton, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach.

Australia

There is not too much that Australia did wrong to lose the previous test match and that is something the side is going to have to remind itself repeatedly. Lingering on small things like Lyon’s fumble, the wasted review, or dropped half-chances is not going to get Australia anywhere.

Australia needs to equal the series to retain the Ashes while England needs to win the series. The advantage is still in Australia’s favor.

Australia’s batting has not been very convincing so far. Steve Smith is towering above everyone else in the batting stats and his replacement Marnus Labuschagne has not done too badly either. There is at least one batsman who has to miss out in the next match but who will it be?

David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne seem to be the only players confirmed of their place. It would be terribly unfair to drop Marcus Harris after just one match but it could be done with Khawaja moving to the opening slot. This change would require a lot of shuffling of the batting order and so we don’t think it will happen.

Travis Head is the third-highest run-scorer in the series for Australia but he had a poor last match and has not scored a big individual score either.

In truth, Tim Paine would be the player to miss out with Matthew Wade taking the gloves but that is not going to happen in the middle of an Ashes series.

Peter Siddle missed the previous match in place of James Pattinson and Australia may just keep the same side.

There is a strange reluctance to play Mitchell Starc assuming he is not going to be effective on English pitches. We would love to see Pattinson replaced by Starc for this match.

Australia’s bowling attack is very good and the return of Steve Smith is going to strengthen the batting considerably but there are many cracks in the lineup that can be exposed.*Update: Australia has left Usman Khawaja and James Pattinson out of its 12 for the fourth Ashes squad. Peter Siddle and Mitchell Starc have been included.

Australia Playing 11

David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, TM Head, Matthew Wade, Tim Paine, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Michael Lyon, JR Hazlewood.

ENG vs AUS Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first because the pitch could start to take a lot of turn in the fourth inning

Pitch and Conditions

England vs Australia Ashed 2019 4th test match is going to be played at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester starting on the 4th of September 2019. The weather forecast for the match is pretty decent. There are some showers expected throughout the match but there should be more than enough time for a result to be arrived at.

The pitch in Manchester is very good for batting and tends to take some spin later on. The amount of grass could dictate whether the fast bowlers have enough to work with or not.

ENG vs AUS Dream11 Prediction

Dream11 prediction for England vs Australia Ashes 2019 is going to have to make a couple of assumptions in terms of team selection. Steve Smith is sure to be back while England may also opt to revamp its lineup a bit. We will be updating our Dream11 team for England vs Australia Ashes 2019 on twitter after the pitch report and toss so follow @cricketbettings for the latest updates.

*UPDATE: The initial pictures of the pitch suggest a brown surface that will turn later. Khawaja and Pattinson not in the 12 announced for the fourth Ashes Test.

Wicketkeeper: We have picked Jonny Bairstow as the sole option from this category. Bairstow is showing good signs of batting form and would be full of confidence after his fighting knock in the second inning of the previous test. Wade may not play this match, Paine is the worst batsmen of the options, and Buttler has in poor form as well.

Batsmen: We have just picked three batsmen for this match. David Warner, Steve Smith, and Joe Denly all make it into our Dream11 team. The records in England show that this is the toughest place for openers in the world right now and that is why we have not picked any opening batsman in our side other than Warner. Neither one has shown any superb form for us to go against the stats either. Joe Root is perhaps the one batsman that we are tempted to pick but will wait to see the nature of the pitch before making a final call. Warner and Denly are in decent form while Steve Smith is making batting look ridiculously easy. He is only going to be more determined after missing the previous three innings thanks to that blow from Archer.

All-rounders: Ben Stokes should be the first name on every Dream11 team. He is currently the best batsman for England and one of their best bowlers. Worth every penny even if he does not quite manage a miracle in this match! Marnus Labuschagne should be able to keep his place in the side after a run of fifties.

Bowlers: Jofra Archer and Josh Hazelwood pick themselves while our other three picks are a bit more experimental. We think Nathan Lyon and Jack Leach are going to play a huge role in this test and have picked Starc in the hope he is going to be picked. If Starc is not picked then Cummins can be substituted in his place.

Captain and Vice-Captain: We have selected Steve Smith as the captain and Ben Stokes as the vice-captain of our Dream11 picks England vs Australia Fourth test Ashes 2019.

ENG vs AUS Betting Tips

We think that Australia has proved itself to be the better team in this series. The conditions should be a bit easier for the batsmen and the return of Steve Smith is a very big boost too. England comes into the match with renewed spirits but they cannot hope for a Ben Stokes miracle in every single game.

Bet on Australia to win.
