ENG vs IND Match Prediction - Sep 10, 2021

India's roller-coaster ride in test cricket just keeps on going. It was yet another stunning display from them as they once again gained an important 2-1 lead in the five match series. They have been dominant of the two sides and will be raring to go out and play the final match of the series.

Make no mistake, though. England have been there or there about and that fighting spirit they have shown has been commendable and like they have already shown, they are more than capable to bounce back after conceding the lead.

The series is well set for the final fixture of the five-match series, which is to be played at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester. The match will begin on 10th September 2021 and as we have seen already, this is going to be yet another cracking contest. Don't take your eyes off this one.

ENG vs IND Team Previews

England

England have not played as bad as the score-line suggests, but they have certainly failed to seize the moments that matter. In the fourth match as well, they often gave away the positions of advantage and had to pay the price. Given the position they were in at one stage, it would not be wrong to say that England snatched a loss from the jaws of victory.

For a change, England's opening pair seems to be doing well and complemented Joe Root brilliantly in the last two tests. Apart from that, Dawid Malan has been amongst the runs and will be looking to get a big one in the upcoming game. Having said that, the onus will once again lie with Joe Root, who by far has outscored all England players in this calendar year. He has looked in terrific form and England do appear to be a tad too over-reliant on him.

We expect Jos Buttler to make his way back into the team and given the performance that Ollie Pope put in the previous match, we might well see Jonny Bairstow sitting out. England will also be disappointed by the way Moeen Ali has batted in the tournament thus far. He has gotten enough opportunities and starts, but has thrown those away. The way he got out in the first innings of the previous test pretty much tells the whole story.

With the ball, England have been good, but they were made to toil in the previous match as they got absolutely no support from the surface. The fact that there has not been much gap between the two tests, fatigue might be an issue for the English bowlers as well. James Anderson has had good support from the likes of Robinson, Woakes, and Overton, but their bowling attack seems one dimensional. We might well see Mark Wood come in to replace Overton in the upcoming contest.

Overall, England may have the advantage of playing at home, but so far they have not been able to fully utilize that. Their batting has blown hot and cold and they seem heavily over-dependent on Joe Root. On the bowling front, however, England have been pretty good and more often than not, they have fought Indians a off-guard. If batsmen can play more responsibly and if England can be more ruthless as a team, they will be difficult to contend with, even for high-flying India.

India

The talks that were making rounds after India conceded a 99-run lead in the fourth match have suddenly vanished. Ravi Ashwin was the main talking point before and during the fourth match, but with Ravi Jadeja and Indian seamers doing well, India's bowling looks settled. Having said that, Ashwin is still not out of the picture. As per the reports, we may see him take the field in pace of Mohammad Siraj if conditions are favorable for spinners.

Regardless of the team selection or other issues surrounding the side, India have been brilliant when put under the pump. We saw that in Australia earlier this year and we saw a similar thing happen at the Oval. They have not only fought hard in the recent tests, but have also managed to come out on top, more often than not.

Even though India won the fourth test and had a lot of positives to take from that game, the gaps in their performance cannot be ignored. The good news is that Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli looked in pretty good form in the second innings. However, the form of Ajinkya Rahane is certainly under the scanner and we might well see Suryakumar Yadav or Hanuma Vihari come in place of him in the upcoming contest.

On the bowling front, India did well, but considering the number of matches India has to play before the World Cup, they might well rest Jasprit Bumrah and bring in Mohammad Shami back for the final test. Only time will tell, though. Jadeja, who was criticized for his under-performance with the ball is sure to retain his place, unless of course there are some injuries.

All in all, India may have some selection problems, but as a side they are looking threatening. They now have the momentum and with batsmen looking back in form, beating them is going to be incredibly difficult even for the hosts.

ENG vs IND Betting Tips

Even though the World Test Championship points no longer depend on the result of the series, both sides will want to keep the other one from winning the upcoming match. Even though India won the previous match, they still have a lot of work to do. England, on the other hand, have the problems of their own. India have undoubtedly been the more dominating side in the series so far and hold the upper hand going into the upcoming contest. Comparing the two sides on form and on the basis of on-paper combinations, betting on an India win should be the way to go here.

Given the form he has been in, Joe Root's performance in the last match was dismal. He is scoring centuries for fun, of late, and would have been gutted having gotten out for two sub-fifty scores. We expect him to be tighter and more determined in the next match and a personal century is certainly on the cards for him. Bet on Joe Root to get a hundred.

Even though James Andreson has been brilliant in the series, it was Chris Woakes who troubled Indian batsmen in the first innings of the last match. He is likely to enjoy bowling in Old Trafford's conditions and will not be an easy bowler to deal with. Chris Woakes seems to be the perfect candidate to bet upon as the highest wicket-taker for his side.

Even though bowlers have been dominant in the series so far, the openers of both sides have been brilliant, especially in the last couple of matches. Both pairs - England's as well as India's look well equipped to handle the new ball and will be hard to dismiss. For that reason, it makes all the sense to bet on the opening partnership in the first innings of the match to score more than 28 runs.
