ENG vs IND Match Prediction - Jun 30, 2019

Two of the pre-tournament favorites, India and England, are going to be playing against each other in one of the most important matches of the ICC World Cup 2019. There is a lot at stake in this match and not just for the two teams involved.

India still needs to win one out of its three remaining matches to confirm its place in the semi-finals. England needs to win both its remaining matches otherwise it will need some other results to go its way. Pakistan and Bangladesh will also be hoping for an India win so that their own hope of making the semi-final remains alive.

India and England have been the top-ranked ODI teams in the last couple of years. They are both very good sides that know each other’s strengths and weaknesses quite well. England vs India ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on the 30th of June 2019.

This was the same venue where the spinners got a lot of help in the match between Pakistan and New Zealand. There has been some murmuring in the media about England not getting the kind of pitches it needs and this may be in a bid to pressure the groundsman at Edgbaston to prepare a flat batting track.

ENG vs IND Team Previews

England

England has struggled in the ICC World Cup 2019. It has now lost to Pakistan, Australia, and Sri Lanka. It still has to play India and New Zealand, two of the in-form sides, and the knives are already being sharpened.

Jason Roy played a couple of very enterprising innings at the beginning of the world cup and then got injured. He was seen practicing in the nets ahead of the Sri Lanka match and we are quite sure he will play against India.

Roy has been challenged with spin early on the inning but India does not usually follow that formula. It will be interesting to see if Virat Kohli decides to change his tactic this time around or backs his fast bowlers against Roy.

We don’t see England making any other changes in this match apart from this.

They will be hoping that Bairstow and Roy are able to give it a strong start against the Indian bowlers after which Joe Root and Eoin Morgan can capitalize. Both the senior English cricketers are excellent players of spin and will be critical to England winning the match.

Ben Stokes is also in very good batting form at number five and is followed by Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes in the batting order. All of England’s lower order players can bat but we don’t think they can be trusted to score too many runs in a pressure situation.

England’s bowling is very good as well. Archer and Wood are among the fastest bowlers in this tournament and will attack the Indian batsmen. If they can get Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early, then more than half the job will be done.

England has not become a bad side overnight but it looks like the pressure of expectations is getting to it. The mental battle will be the toughest one it faces in this match.

England Playing 11

JJ Roy, Jonny Bairstow, JE Root, Eoin Morgan, BA Stokes, Jos Buttler, CR Woakes, AU Rashid, LE Plunkett, Jofra Chioke Archer, M Wood.

India

The only side still unbeaten in this tournament, India is under little pressure. It must win another match to be certain of its semi-final spot but it has two relatively easier opponents to face after England. Even if it loses this game, nothing much will be lost.

That does not mean that India is not going to try to win.

Forget all the conspiracy theories floating around, we are certain that Virat Kohli will want to win. They would also be very happy to see England out of the tournament without having to face them in a knockout match later on.

India has to make a few tough decisions in its lineup as well.

The absence of Shikhar Dhawan has disturbed the balance of the team quite critically. Lokesh Rahul has been scoring runs at number four but he does not have the kind of impact that Shikhar Dhawan does. More importantly, his moving to the opening position has made the number four position a problem once again.

Vijay Shankar is not making the most of his chances and we cannot see how Rishab Pant will be made to sit out for one more match. This is the time to give him time in the middle because the semi-finals are fast approaching.

India has been dependent on its top-3 to get the runs for a long time but now the pressure is on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. There will be a day when they both fail to get the runs and that is when India’s batting is going to crumble.

Dhoni and Pandya have shown some fight in the middle order but surely Kedar Jadhav must also be facing the heat now.

India has remained unbeaten in the ICC World Cup 2019 because of its bowling and that is where the second selection issue comes up. Mohammad Shami replaced Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and has now taken 8 wickets in two matches. He has bowled with speed, consistency, and it will be very difficult to drop him.

Bhuvaneshwar was bowling well before he got injured so it is tough on him to not make the playing eleven either.

With both players expected to be available for selection ahead of this match, it will be interesting to see what India does. Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav are almost certain to be playing the remaining matches unless there is some injury concern.

India is going to be the far more confident side going into this match on a pitch expected to take a lot of turn.

India Playing 11

Lokesh Rahul, Rohit Sharma, V Kohli, RR Pant, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, YS Chahal, JJ Bumrah.

ENG vs IND Toss Prediction

The toss is going to be very important in this match. We have no doubt that the team winning the toss will want to bat first because batting is expected to get a lot tougher in the second inning.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

England vs India ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The weather is expected to be clear and sunny on match day. We should not have any weather-related interruptions. A lot more scrutiny will be placed on the playing surface.

We think a fresh pitch is going to be used for this match but that does not change the nature of the underlying square. The pitch will be better to bat on than what we saw in the previous match here but will still help the spinners in the second half.

ENG vs IND Dream11 Prediction

Dream11 team for England vs India ICC World Cup 2019 is being made with the belief that we are going to see a spin-friendly surface. We are also assuming that Jason Roy is fit and available for selection for the England team while Rishab Pant will get a chance in the middle order for India. As always, any unexpected team changes or other surprises will be tackled by an updated Dream11 team released on Twitter after the toss. Wicketkeeper: We have picked three wicketkeepers including Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, and Rishab Pant. Jos Buttler is due for a big score and this would be a great time to deliver for his nation. Jonny Bairstow had a very successful season of the IPL and knows the Indian bowlers quite well. Rishab Pant is a dangerous middle-order batsman whom we believe has to play this match in place of Vijay Shankar. The pressure on India is increasing to strengthen its batting and including Pant in the playing 11 is the obvious choice.

Batsmen: High-pressure matches require the biggest players to stand up and be counted. This is why we have included Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma in our side. Root scored two centuries in his last two matches against India to help England win the ODI series while Morgan is a very good player of spin. Picking Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the team is an easy choice since both of them are the two most prolific run-scorers in the last four years. They score runs more times than not and would love to leave their stamp on the occasion.

All-rounders: We have space for only one all-rounder in this match and we are picking Moeen Ali. He has had a quiet World Cup till now but could play a big role at Edgbaston where the pitch is going to spin. Moeen Ali has also done very well against India in the past.

Bowlers: There are three quality spinners in this match and we have included all three of them in our team. Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Adil Rashid will all play central roles for their teams in this match. If the pitch plays as per expectations then their performances could decide the outcome of the match.

Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Joe Root as captain and Yuzvendra Chahal as vice-captain in this match.

ENG vs IND Betting Tips

England has won six out of the last nine matches against India. They were also very competitive against India in spin-friendly conditions when all three matches played between the two went down to the last few overs.

The toss is going to be very important in this match and we don’t think England will make the mistake of chasing again. The two teams are quite closely matches and we think betting on the team batting first makes sense.

Right now, without knowledge of the toss, we think India has the better chance of winning.

Bet on India to win.
