The compressed cricket calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic means that England is about to start an ODI series barely 24 hours after winning the test series against Ireland. A completely different set of players from the test team is going to be turning out for England. This, however, does not mean that England is fielding a weak team or is taking Ireland lightly.
For Ireland, this series is perhaps more important than for England. The ICC has announced that the new ODI Super League is officially going to begin with this series. It will be the basis for World Cup 2023 qualification and so every match is going to be vital.
All the matches are going to be played at Southampton to minimize the traveling and to maintain a bio-secure bubble.
England vs Ireland 1st ODI 2020 is going to be played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, on the 30th of July 2020.
The tremendous depth in the England ODI setup is something that helped it win the World Cup. It is something that is going to allow it to field a very strong lineup even without any of its test regulars. Eoin Morgan is back in charge and has a very talented batting order at his disposal.
Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy will open the batting followed most likely by James Vince. Eoin Morgan bats at four and will continue to do so. This is a very strong top-order and capable of scoring at a very quick pace.
Bairstow scored more than 150 in one of the warm-up matches and is our pick to be the best batsman for England. There is stiff competition for the middle-order places but it appears as if Moeen Ali, Joe Denly, and Tom Banton will be picked.
Sam Billings may come in for Joe Denly pretty easily as well but that is something we will have to wait and see. Once again, there is a lot of power here but not as much experience. This may be a weak spot that Ireland wants to press on if it can get some early wickets.
The four bowlers for the first match are likely to be Adil Rashid, Tom Curran, David Willey, and Saqib Mahmood. A lot of these bowlers are not the first-choice ODI bowlers and would be very keen to try and leave an impression.
Adil Rashid is our pick to be the best bowler for this match.
Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, James Vince, Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings, Tom Banton, David Willey, Moeen Ali, Tom Curran, AU Rashid, Saqib Mahmood.
Ireland has struggled to be competitive in limited-overs cricket for quite some time now. We actually rate the Netherlands as a better team than Ireland right now and Scotland could give it a run for its money as well.
Ireland has to take every match it plays seriously with an eye to picking up wins wherever it can.
It also must increase the depth of its squad and build resources. This is why it has named a young squad with some names who have never played an ODI match.
The batting for the team is going to be the main concern. Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling are the two best batsmen of the side. They have power and the talent to score quickly as well as build long innings. Kevin O' Brien is given the license to play freely up at the top of the order but he is very inconsistent.
Players such as William Porterfield, Harry Tector, Curtis Camphor, and Lorcan Tucker will have to prove their worth in the middle-order. Ireland is not going to be able to beat England at the power game and has to be smart. A more traditional approach of keeping wickets in hand and then building up to a big finish may be the way to go.
Boyd Rankin, Joshua Little, Craig Young, and perhaps Simi Singh will be the bowlers for the opening match. Ireland is not going to be able to bowl out England too often and will focus on building pressure through stifling the scoring rate.
PR Stirling, Andy Balbirnie, Gareth Delany, Kevin O'Brien, Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, Lorcan Tucker, Simi Singh, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, CA Young.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first in what we expect to be excellent batting conditions.

The weather forecast for Southampton on match day is excellent. There is absolutely no rain predicted and we should be able to enjoy a full uninterrupted match. Southampton is a high-scoring venue, like most in England, and is going to be a batsman’s paradise. The ball will come on nicely to the bat and there is going to be very little help for the bowlers.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes before the batsmen find their hitting arcs.
We think 300-320 is going to be difficult to be a par total batting first.
Dream11 tips and Dream11 team for England vs Ireland 1st ODI
Ireland cannot be completely written-off but it is very difficult to see them win a match against the current world champions at home. England has a stronger batting lineup, more quality in its bowling, and is playing at home.
There may be little value in it but we cannot recommend anything different.
Bet on England to win (1.12)
An excellent bat and one that we think is almost sure to come in. England has played an aggressive brand of cricket and opens with a very quick-scoring pair. The best part is that this bet is not dependent on one single batsman scoring. Any one or a combination of batsmen can help England beat this target pretty easily.
Our recommended bet.
The sheer batting talent on offer in this match makes this a very good bet. The odds are pretty good as well for this bet. A 100 is a big score, though, and the risk is always there that Ireland might bat first and not end up getting enough runs.
Wait for the toss and bet on this if England bats first.
