ENG vs NZ Match Prediction - Jun 10, 2021

The first test match between England and New Zealand turned out to be a pretty dull draw. Rain took out one entire day from the match but the lack of intent that England showed with the bat was very disappointing as well.

Now, tweets from years past have come back to haunt the England team, as they have lost Ollie Robinson and another player is under the scanner. Now, the action is going to shift to Birmingham and almost 20 thousand fans are expected to see that match every day.

There are always betting opportunities to exploit when there is turmoil in the teams. This occasion is going to be no different. Let us try and have a look at both teams in detail to see where is the best chance to gain an advantage.

Match Prediction and betting tips for England vs New Zealand 2nd Test Match 2021. The match is going to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham starting on the 10th of June 2021.

ENG vs NZ Team Previews

England

England was very lucky to have been saved by the rain in the previous match. It batted poorly and benefited from dropped catches to reach 275 in the first inning and then batted without any intent whatsoever in the second.

The faults in the English batting lineup are clear and without players like Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, or Moeen Ali, the team is definitely vulnerable against a good bowling lineup.

We saw one Rory Burns top-score in the first inning and Dominic Sibley in the second but neither of them looks very settled at the crease. We think going ‘Under’ the par score offered by cricket betting sites on Dominic Sibley is worth looking at.

He spends so much time getting started that he is always going to be susceptible to an early dismissal.

Zak Crawley is out of form and will be under pressure to keep his place and the same will be the case with Daniel Lawrence. Joe Root and Ollie Pope both scored runs before getting out. The odds available on them to be the highest run-scorer for England are pretty decent and definitely worth a punt each.

Craig Overton is going to be the player to replace Ollie Robinson in all likelihood. Mark Wood also tends to not play too many Tests in a row and so he could be replaced by Olly Stone as well. It was interesting to see England not pick a spinner at all and that may change for Edgbaston where the ball can spin in the third and fourth innings.

A lot of changes for England are expected and with the senior players not performing, the pressure is going to be on the home team for sure.

New Zealand

New Zealand has a very poor away record for a team that is currently ranked number 2 in Test cricket. It has just won two matches in the last fifteen years in England, India, and Australia. Of course, there are a lot of changes that have taken place in the team and it has been very successful in recent times.

We don’t think anyone would deny that this is the best chance New Zealand has had to try and win a Test Match and Test Series in England in a long time.

Devon Conway has continued his success at the international level by starting in a record-breaking manner in test cricket as well. Players like Henry Nicholls, Tom Latham, and BJ Watling may not attract too much attention but they are very good Test Match players.

Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the match due to an injury niggle and Tom Latham is going to lead in his absence. A big loss but Williamson was not in the best recent form.

New Zealand has a lot more experience and depth in its batting lineup especially with de Grandhomme, Santner, Jamieson, and Southee all in the lineup. One tough question that New Zealand will have to answer is around the availability of Trent Boult for this match.

He is available and is all but certain to walk in the team. We think with so much all-round batting talent, Colin de Grandhomme may be the player to miss out. There is no doubt that the return of Trent Boult is going to strengthen New Zealand’s bowling attack more.

Jamieson, Southee, and even de Grandhomme got a lot more swing than the English bowlers in the first match. They looked more threatening and definitely looked more likely to pick up wickets.

Kyle Jamieson is currently being offered at excellent odds by Betway to be the top wicket-taker for New Zealand in this match.

New Zealand Playing 11

TWM Latham, Devon Conway, Will Young, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell, Daryl Mitchell, Neil Wagner, Matt Henry, Ajaz Patel, Trent Boult.

ENG vs NZ Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss may want to bowl first if there is any grass on the surface. If, however, we see the grass shaved off then batting first is going to be a big advantage.

Pitch and Conditions

There is a theory going around that England is preparing flatter wickets this summer to ensure matches go the full five days and to prepare for the falter wickets that they will encounter in Australia during the Ashes.

In general, Edgbaston always offers some help to the bowlers for the first day and keeps the batsmen honest. The spinners start coming into the picture from the third or fourth day onward.

A total of around 300-350 is not uncommon in the first inning.
